Football Question. . .

One of the rules that is most often flagged wrongly by linesmen is the offside position, perhaps because it is in reality the one position that is most often incurred in during a football game. But it is true that many refereeing mistakes are dependent on this position. I just saw a goal denied to Chelsea against Liverpool because of an apparent offside incurred by Mason Mount who ran from midfield until he scored. The goal was not given.

I think he was offside but the pundits on the channel I am watching are divided on whether it was or wasn't. It is really hard to tell and I think the linesman did not call it, it was denied by VAR. This of course made me think things and I came up with a theoretical question to which I would like an answer.

My question is the following: The linesman flags for an offside, the defending team players stop following the ball because they see the flag, a goal is scored but is invalid as the linesman called offside. But then VAR rules that the goal is legit. What is done in this case? Should the referee allow the goal or not?
