What is tiwul,
let's see.. Tiwul is one of the traditional Javanese foods which is commonly referred to as market snacks.
Tiwul made from cassava as a substitute for rice when the price of rice was not purchased by the Indonesian people in Central Java during the Japanese colonial era in the 1960s.
It is also synonymous with daily meals for the poor in barren areas. Tiwul is one way for the community to defend themselves from the threat of starvation during a prolonged dry season. But not only eaten during the dry season, in places like Kalisonggo Hamlet, tiwul can be eaten all year round. Tiwul alone or tiwul mixed with rice is eaten with grilled salted fish, onion sauce, cassava leaf vegetables, or spinach from your own garden. Tiwul is often used as a substitute for rice in drought-prone areas such as in Sukoharjo and Wonogiri districts because it can save money instead of buying rice. Meanwhile, if you have to plant rice, the environmental conditions are too dry so it is not possible.
Tiwul can be a substitute for rice because the carbohydrate content of tiwul is no less than rice so it can replace rice completely. “Rice has other content besides carbohydrates, such as vitamin B1. However, eating a variety of foods, not just one kind of food is better for our bodies.
Not to be left behind are typical substitutes for Bersa in the past, such as Nasi Abang/Sego Abang of the type of brown rice, then Sego/Rice gembul and Sego/Rice Bancakan.
Many foreign to
