On his house door, he met his son Asad and kissed his forehead. His son asked him, Father where are you going? He said, Son I am going for an interview. I got a call from a multinational company for an HR job. There would be a two-month internship afterwards. If my performance is satisfactory, they could select me for the HR position in their office.
When he entered the office at the reception, the HR officer took his CV and told him to wait in the corridor. He sat there where more than twenty other candidates were waiting for their turn.
When his number came for the interview, he entered the manager's office. The manager and his team welcomed him. He asked Qadir, Have you ever done any job before? He said, No I worked in a hotel as a waiter. I do not have any major experience.
The manager told him, We don not need intelligent students for this job. We need candidates like you. You will have to travel to Italy on a boat. Where you will work in our refugee camp. You will work as a translator for us. When you do this effectively, we willpromote you to a higher position, and you can even bring your family to Italy.
He agreed to the job, knowing the salary was low. But he thought, If I do this job perfectly, what will I lose? All will be gain, gain for me and my family.
They told him, We've selected two candidates, you and Najeeb Ullah. After the interview, both were seated in the hall. The company offered them tea and told them to submit their documents and passport. After one week, both of you will go to Italy in a ship.
When he reached home, he was very happy. He bought donuts for his family. When he reached home, everyone was waiting at the gate for him. He smiled, I got selected and next week I amm leaving for Italy. The news spread like wildfire. Everyone in his village came to their home for congratulations.
After one week when the day arrived, everyone from his village stood outside his home for farewell. Everyone prayed for his safe journey and success. He kissed his son and daughter, waved his hand, and sat in a taxi. The taxi was already arranged by his street friend, Maqsood.
When he reached the seaport, the ship was ready. He met his other colleague, Najeeb Ullah. It was a long journey. It was the first time in his life he was traveling in a ship. Also, it was the first time he was leaving his country.
As they reached Italy, they started working as translators. It was not an easy job, as war had started in the country. When they captured the enemy, both were called to the detained center for translation. Qadir was a very ordinary personality. He had never faced such circumstances in his life. The fear on his face was visible.
As the company had offered him three months to do this job, but it was almost a year that was going to complete. They only gave him a resident, pick-and-drop, and food. After one year of service he and his friend received a letter. In that letter, it was mentioned that both of you can go to your country. They got the nationality of that country. Now you can bring your family here.
Qadir and his friend were very excited. They called their family on the landline number. They told them that they were coming to the country. Soon we'll all come back to Italy.Najeeb Ullah decided that when he comes back to Italy, he will apply for Germany because he really likes to go to Germany.
When Qadir reached his village, everyone was very happy, people were dancing. His wife and kids were waiting for him at the gate.
After a few days, Qadir and his family left their country, maybe forever. Qadir didn't have any family members. All were died in a drone attack. So he and his wife decided they would not come back to
his country. As Najeeb Ullah also prepared his language and brought his family too. Both met at the seaport. The ship was ready to leave.
When they had traveled two hours, the sky turned black. A heavy rainfall started. There was a storm starting in the sea, like a tsunami. Everyone was crying, people were screaming. Few of them were praying. Everyone was screaming for help.
The ship crew were running. They gave life jackets to everyone. Qadir was very frightened, so was his family. They were searching for Najeeb Ullah and his family, but they hadn't seen them.
Suddenly, a heavy wave left the ship upside down. Qadir held his daughter and son, tying them with a wooden plank. Where is Natasha? Qadir shouted. I don't know, Father, said his son. Oh God, please help us!
People were drowning. The water was very cold. Somehow, these three managed to reach the shore. The crows were flying over their heads. They didn't even have anything to eat. All they could do was pray.
Thanks for introducing this contest. @franyeligonzalez
I want to invite my two friends @aqlimaa and @muhammad-ahmad
Muy buena narración, aunque es triste el desenlace. Saludos!
Thanks brother, I wrote it to make realistic. We often see heartbreaking news on the internet about ships sinking at sea resulting in the loss of many immigrant lives. But have you ever wondered why they left their homeland in the first place?
They are not just seeking a better life for themselves but also for their families. Many of them end up losing their lives in the process.
If we focus on surrounding we can make that place also good. All I would say Government is responsible for it. If they provide opportunity to young generation they will not leave the country like this. They will stay inside earn money in their own country. Then there will be no need of it.
