I noticed that some set of Bianyo 10B pencils when layered multiple times give that deep dark effect without denting the paper so I bought a lot just incase they run out of that particular batch and i've been using just that for years now. You can try out different pencils, especially those brands not popularly patronized, you just might find something that works for you.
