A Pencil Portrait of Jack Nicholson #club100
Couple of weeks back, I shared with you my first portrait of Jack Nicholson. It was very dramatic and his facial expression in that reference photo gave me the edge I needed to smudge an almost perfect figure....just in case you didn't see it, here it is..
It took numerous layers I must admit to achieve this nice blend. And so, I thought of making another one. Sadly, I didn't get this time an equally dramatic reference image. I did try my best however to represent the stern seriousness in his face as I made my way with the paper.
I really must admit that it was fun making this sketch even though a side seems burnt compared to the other....lol.
I'm very much open for pointers feel free to kindly drop them below. Thanks in advance, and thanks for the time.

His serious facial expression is so successful that I can see it clearly when I look into his eyes. Although there are not very detailed skin details, the wrinkles on his forehead and the sharp lines in the upper lip area were able to reflect his age. Great portrait :)
Thanks, I did intend making it very elaborate but the pencil I was using was very soft and had left some indelible tones which if I should try to compensate might ruin the entire sketch so I just did my best to smudge what I could.....in my next portrait of him however, I'll not be making the same mistake. And this time, I think I'll make one from his role as "The Joker".

I think this was the perfect reference to make your study, as a different expression and more age are at play. For me is an excellent portrait!!

It's nice the personality of Jack and I still have lots of impression I'd like to represent and this time, they'll be digital.
