A time machine has always been portrayed in movies, a portal that takes you into the past, future and even some time in the present. It is a great phenomenon, and anyone would love to have this kind of machine at their disposal. The owner of a time machine would say he has time in the palm of his hands, and he can bend time at will. So, I will tell you a story about a boy who made the time machine by mistake during his science fair project. This story accompanies the digital image drawn by @xpilar. Hence, the story:

The science fair project is four weeks away and Dylan has no clue as to what he was going to make for his science project, his parents have been down on his neck, always clamoring their excitement to see what he was going to create.

The pressure made Dylan lose concentration in entirely everything including his studies. Soon enough, he summoned courage to gather up tools, both electrical and mechanical tools. He decided to build a machine that looks like a stone on the outside but was very comfortable on the inside; he meant to build a machine that can hide a person from the outside world, and the pressure that comes with it.

Dylan started working on his project with nearly three week to the science fair, his parents were not financially buoyant, so he had to gather scraps from the junkyard as his major mechanical materials. The first week of trail was a complete waste of time; he was having problems with the inside. Creating a rough outside would always leave the inside rough also; he knew he needed a special touch and a lot of hard work.

With just a week to go, Dylan was left with the electrical workings to start up his work. He had completed the machine structurally; powering it up would not be much of a challenge. Dylan had feared not to make a machine that would blow up the entire city, lol. Yet, he could not afford professional help; it was simply against the rules of the fair. I could not help but notice the project was something too big for Dylan to handle being a high school kid, he could have made something simple but creative and educative. It was obvious he was trying to impress someone.

He had made a bet with some of his friends, who will be make a jaw breaking project. No wonder he had a headache deciding what to create. At this stage, it was more than the reward of the fair.

After serious work on the project with a few days to go, Dylan had completed his work and was ready to give it a spin. At first, the machine did not boot, but after a few adjustments it started working. Entering into the machine, Dylan discovered the inside was not as comfortable as he had planned. Trying to make some adjustment from the inside, he decided to take a break. Getting a glass of water, he discovered the clock had gone backwards. He confirmed from other gadgets, and it was correct. Dylan could not understand what was going on, he went back into the machine and powered it on.

This time Dylan had traveled a few years into the future where the machine he created had caused an apocalypse, chaos everywhere. The use of the machine made the world crumble because the essence and the fabric in which the world revolves around is time and it should not be tampered with. Nations fighting against nations to get their hands on the machine, because they thought it was a good way to start over and correct their mistakes.

Dylan returning from the future was smart enough to destroy the machine; he said: “a machine this powerful should not be in the hands of anyone, it would cause the end of the world”. Finally, Dylan had to settle for something simple, creative, and educative with just days away from the project. He had learnt his lesson and now he was contented with what he had.
