The Memorial Cross (PowerUp 100%)

This large memorial cross is located at the peak of the Mount Samat National Shrine, in Pilar, province of Bataan, Philippines. It is made from reinforced steel and concrete, towering 92 meters. The arm of the cross has a viewing gallery, measuring 30 meters wide. While the base which depicts historical scenes, measures 11 meters high.

The viewing deck is also located in the arms of the cross. It can be reached via elevator in the center of the cross. On a clear day, you can view the Corregidor Island and the beautiful mountain of Mariveles.

The big cross, together with the whole shrine complex was built to memorialize the bravery and heroism of all the Filipino and American soldiers who offered their lives and fought relentlessly against the Japanese forces.

The Battle of Bataan ended in April 9, 1942. The date April 9 became our Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor in commemoration for all soldiers who fight for democracy of the Filipinos.
