Nine Japanese planes over Antarctica

We heard the sound of thunder far on the horizon. Then a noise of engines. We looked and saw that there were several planes. I counted them. They were nine in all. They came directly to our scientific station, there in the Argentine Antarctica. My companions and I looked at each other. "What are these planes doing around here?" one of them asked. “No one told us that a group of planes was going to pass through here” –I told them.

I took several photos of them with my device. Another of my colleagues did the same. They flew low and passed over our heads. In that moment I could see the typical green coloration of military aircraft. I was struck by the red circles painted under their wings. They drove on, and four seconds later there was a deafening flash of lightning and thunder and the planes disappeared into nothingness.

We reported the case to the main base and they told us that they did not have any notification about permits granted for foreign aircraft flights there. I checked on the Internet to investigate the provenance of airplanes with red circles. The answer was: Japanese planes of World War II. They were called Zeros.

We are a small group of scientists and very few believe in ghosts. But our jaws dropped when we checked the devices and what we had photographed was the pure sky and no planes. Japanese planes of obsolete technology over Antarctica and thousands of miles from their home country? Well, we will stay forever with the mystery.

Nueve aviones japoneses sobre la Antártida

Oímos el sonido de un trueno lejos en el horizonte. Luego un ruido de motores. Miramos y vimos que eran varios aviones. Los conté. Eran nueve en total. Venían directo hacia nuestra estación científica, allá en la Antártida Argentina. Mis compañeros y yo nos miramos unos a otros. “¿Qué hacen estos aviones por aquí?” –preguntó uno de ellos-. “Nadie nos avisó que por aquí iba a pasar un grupo de aviones” –les dije.

Les tomé varias fotos con mi dispositivo. Otro de mis compañeros hizo lo mismo. Volaban a baja altura y pasaron sobre nuestras cabezas. En eso les pude observar la típica coloración verde de los aviones militares. Me llamaron la atención los círculos rojos que tenían pintados bajo las alas. Siguieron de largo y al cabo de cuatro segundos hubo un relámpago y un trueno ensordecedor y los aviones desaparecieron entre la nada.

Reportamos el caso a la base principal y nos dijeron que allá no tenían ninguna notificación sobre permisos concedidos para vuelos de aviones extranjeros. Revisé en Internet para investigar la procedencia de aviones con círculos rojos. La respuesta fue: Aviones japoneses de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Se llamaban Zeros.

Somos un grupo pequeño de científicos y muy poco creemos en fantasmas. Pero quedamos boquiabiertos cuando revisamos los dispositivos y lo que habíamos fotografiado era el puro cielo y nada de las naves. ¿Aviones japoneses de tecnología obsoleta sobre la Antártida y a miles de millas desde su país de origen? Bueno, nos quedaremos para siempre con el misterio.
