CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #157 - Piazza Lamarmora

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year

Hello, this is a post for the CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #157 by @axeman

This is a glimpse of Piazza Lamarmora, in the historical center of Iglesias, Italy.

The building on the right was an old pastry shop, on the facade you can see advertisements for liqueurs and sweets from the early 1900s, paintings restored a few decades ago. Some of these liqueurs still exist today, at the time they were very famous and very expensive brands!

On the left there is a well, no longer functional, called "su maimoni", from the name of the small statue on top. Su maimoni was an ancient mythical figure linked to waters and rain. The well was rebuilt in 1990, because in 1872 it was demolished to make room for the road. It seems that the original well dates back to the 18th century.

Looking at this little square, like many other places rebuilt and modified, makes me think about how art is considered differently over the centuries, and according to practical needs!

I took the picture with my chell phone. Thanks for watching!
