WOX Travel Contest | Week 15- A Trip to Old and New Delhi with a difference

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year
I thank @o1eh for the opportunity to share my personal visit in the 15th edition of this beautiful contest.

If any of you are interested to share your travel experiences please visit this post and get going.

It delighted me when I saw an email from my travel agent that our visa formalities required us to get our health check done, so we went to "Must and More: Diagnostic Centre Pathology Lab." I called my cab provider and asked him to pick us up at 8:30.

This was the email I had been waiting for several weeks and finally, it arrived. So we were expected to report at the lab's counter at 9.15 sharp for a 9.30 appointment.

We were free by 11 AM, so we decided to take advantage of the cab because we had to pay a fixed charge for the day so we visited Metro Walking Mall, which is not far from the lab and one of its own kind.

This mall is spread over a large area with a water resort inside, and each and every shop is separate. There is no escalator or stairs, as the entire mall is single-story.

We were walking at a slow pace inside Metro Walk Mall and spent some time walking near the water sports area.

We walked around the shopping area and checked some stores for the dress I had in mind for my wife, but we did not find the one we were looking for.

DSC07655.JPG

So we decided to keep roaming around the lake area watching in different stores. After all, it costs nothing to look at the items and you never know in case you find something worth its price.

DSC07636.JPG

They sell wonderful dresses at a very reasonable price. We saw several items, but we bought nothing. I thought, "Let's make it a day’s trip before leaving India.

DSC07620.JPG

The sun was glaring at its top, and as you know, the capital of India is overcrowded, but its saving grace is the greenery.

After spending about two hours here, we drove to the Old Fort, one of the most visited historical monuments in the city's heart. I have visited this fort a couple of times before, but today we went to the backside.

DSC04857.JPG

The Old Fort is over 500 years old, built by Sher Shah Suri, the founder of the Suri Dynasty. The Old Fort is the oldest known structure in New Delhi.

The fort has three gateways: the Big Gate facing west, which is commonly used for tourists, the South Gate, popularly known as the "Humayun Gate", and lastly, the Talaqi Gate, known as the "forbidden or secret gate," probably used by kings in emergencies. There is a single-domed royal mosque that is very well maintained, the Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, which was built by Sher Shah Suri along with several other monuments.

But when we were on the wall watching the backside of the fort we thought, "Can we go there and have a look at how the fort looks from the backside?" Cool!

We climbed down the wall walked on the slop and reached the backside of the fort and was a wonderful scene.

DSC04896.JPG

Then we walked to the nearby lake. There was no boating right now as they have postponed the program for the time being, but we could see the beautiful boats lined up in that beautiful artificial lake. We have done boating in the past on this lake, so we didn't mind.

DSC04906.JPG

The site is open all day for tourists. Tourists can also enjoy the spectacular sound and light show held every evening. But we didn’t plan on staying until the evening, and we had no intention to stay there by night.

DSC07600.JPG

We visited a couple of other malls in that area, including Shoppers Stop, but we did not find the dress she was looking for. The sun was ready to set by then, so we decided to spend some time in the market area. Delhi is a beautiful city during the day, but even more beautiful at night. But today we had no plan to stay for a night walk.

We passed through "Eleven Course", a wonderful fine dining restaurant and one of my wife’s favorites, in the Indian capital, but today we did not look at that but passed through that building.

City Tower Mall

Finally, we came to City Tower Mall and found a dress. Then, of course, we had our dinner at our favorite vegetarian restaurant in this area, so we both went there and ordered mushroom soup for a starter, two dishes of vegetables, dal, rice, and chapatis for the main course, and one ice cream for dessert.

And then back home via India Gate and Pragati Maidan Tunel, which has a new look lately.

DSC01106.JPG

It used to be a crowded area but now they have banned slow traffic like rickshaws and all other hand-driven carts, etc so it was a wonderful experience of driving on this route.

I like the wall paintings and the fiber roof before the tunnel begins which gives it a unique look.

Thank you for participating. I liked the walk around New Delhi, but especially the Old Fort or Purana-Kila caught my fancy. The walls of the 1.5 km long fortress rise to a height of 18 m. A wonderful example of ancient Indian architecture.

And I'm glad you finally found a dress for your wife :)

Thank you, and your comment shows that you searched the internet for more info about OLD FORT which is one of the few pre-British era buildings in New Delhi otherwise most of them fall in the Old Delhi area.

Let me make it clear that New Delhi and Old Delhi have no lines which separate them from each other but once you reach there you know the difference. Thank you!

Do you mean this old fort or all old forts? Because this fort is known as Old Fort as its name or as the Fort of Sher Shah Suri. Thanks for your visit and kind words.

I am referring to what you have shown in this post.

I have been to Delhi couple of times, but yet not visited the old fort.
It was a good tour of the city giving a glimpse of the local life.
