WOX Travel Contest | Week 13 : National Arboretum Canberra

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year (edited)
Hello, dear Steemians,

Thanks to @o1eh, today, I'm going to take you to the National Arboretum, Canberra. I am sorry to say that I went here last in December 2020, and at that time, the entire country, especially NSW, Victoria, and ACT states, were under the grip of the dreaded COVID, so there were too few visitors at this otherwise very busy point throughout the year.

POD PLAYGROUND

I am so sorry, I can't show you anything like this in this post so here is a video to give you an idea of this place

(video courtesy YouTube)

This place is just at a distance of only 8-9 km from my home. You will find one of the largest collections of rare, endangered, and iconic trees in the world surround itself by some of Canberra's best panoramic views, forests, stunning architecture, and themed, landscaped gardens.

There is a wonderful place where we go and celebrate the weekend when there is no special program and have fun all day long. And needless to say that you can see a wonderful view of different water bodies and walking tracks and of course Lake Burley Griffin in the background.

I didn't know at the time that all the hard drives I left in Canberra would be of great use, but as some of you know, I'm about to leave soon, so I'll share a few more details with you in another post.

Here, I would like to tell you that in this area, one has to be careful about coming into contact with natural hazards like snakes, biting insects, and birds that attack during their incubation period.

We did not find any horse riders this year, but when everything is normal, there is a crowd of walkers, joggers, cyclists, and horse riders. There is just enough space at road junctions, car park entrances, and exits for Australians to normally practice social distancing. Yes, they have been practicing it normally even before COVID. But it took me some time to learn it when I reached there in 2011.

So do you think The Labyrinth Garden is for contemplation and renewal only in France? No, you are wrong, you can use this garden here in Canberra for peace and meditation.

Here we are in a labyrinth of gardens surrounded by beautiful ground cover, quiet places to sit among shrubs and deciduous trees, and including an abundance of royal bluebells, Wahlenbergia gloriosa. What else do we come here for?

Now, it is needless to say that most of the tracks are free of dirt, but there is uneven ground in many areas with no marked footpaths, especially when walking through monoculture forests.

Tracks and Trails, It's a lot of fun taking pictures of walking mates.

Let me tell you here that this place has been chosen as the best tourist attraction in Canberra. The arboretum covers rolling hills and valleys spread over an area of 250 hectares.

National Bonsai and Penjing Collection

Australia's National Bonsai and Penjing Collection, which are nearby and my favorite places, were also closed, so I took photos from outside.

Here, you can see that there is a village center located in the center of the arboretum. If you go inside it, you will enjoy the art and architecture, but this time it was not possible. It was forbidden to go inside.

Check out the Peace Margaret Whitlam Pavilion. From here, you can see the view of the lake, the city, and the surrounding mountains and feel the strong winds. The structure of this place is made of steel beams, and all the panels are insulated. It is said that the couples here give a lot of importance to their marriage.

If you go into it, you will find that it is compatible with both amplified and natural voices and music.

Where we often enjoyed eating at the cafe, the restaurant was closed. Yes, the gift shop was open in the curatorium.

The playground was open, but the tourists were very busy, and the kids were not flying. kites, a common scene otherwise.

So here is some more information: A walking and jungle map is available at the tourist desk, but I will give you this big board.

The National Arboretum in Canberra is home to one of the world's largest collections of rare, endangered, and important trees. You must be aware that people from more than 80 countries live in Australia, and more than 50,000 trees from more than 100 countries are growing on the 250-hectare site in hundreds of forests, some of which are more than 100 years old.

So check out the spectacular Ecosystems Park and Australia's famous National Bonsai and Penjing Collection.

It is a pity that this was also closed, but I could see from outside that more than 75 trees kept here, and they change the plants frequently. There are performances. Different types of traditional and modern style trees are selected every year, and eucalyptus is prominent among them. Think eucalyptus. There are many other Australian tree species to choose from.

Armillary Area Solarium

Look at this amazing piece of art. It is called the Armillary Sphere Sundial, a sundial made of brass and stainless steel. This dairy is situated atop Farmers Hill.

And this is a good area to keep the kids busy when you go for a stroll around the forest area up the hill.

Thank you for always being with us. I really liked the arboretum. He looks extremely well-groomed. Such centers of nature are the decoration of any region. In my opinion, unfortunately, we treat nature too barbarically. Therefore, such parks show people what nature could be like if we did not destroy it.

I think there is a place to walk in this arboretum for more than one day 😀.

Did you say more than one day? Actually, even months are not enough but we live close to this place so we go as often as we can so we see different areas in our different visits. Thank you. We know a couple of our friends who go there every weekend on their bikes.

¡Congratulations!
