WOX Travel Contes Week-1: A Trip to Black Mountain Canberra
I took a selfie with my regular phone before I entered my car and drove along Lake Burley Griffin from my residential area in Garren towards Black Mountain.
we wanted to walk the entire evening, or as long as the last visitor left the area.
We kept driving and followed it along the lake's edge, then turned right and crossed Commonwealth Avenue. I was tempted to take pictures of that area, but I will give you those pictures in another post later. By the way, I was in the passenger seat.
When we were standing in the car park on Black Mountain, I had two options available to me, either I mingle in the crowd and be their part or we go down the hill and walk on the hilly route. My wife thought she would watch the city from the hilltop so I opted for the second option.
I got down to the hilly track and then I put my hand in my pocket to take my camera out. Oh sh*t, I forgot to bring it. No worries, I will use my phone today, which I seldom use for taking photos.
I was walking at the hills on the western side of Lake Griffins, or what they call the Molonglo floodplain in a wide open space of Black Mountain.
I was on the dizzy slopes of Black Mountain, walking along the National Botanic Gardens, where you can find the best collection of plants found anywhere in the world.
I could see a kid walking in front of me, perhaps his parents were a little further from that point
Yeah, when they came up with the concept of this garden not long ago, say about 75 years ago, they wanted to do something different from the conventional botanic gardens. This one gives you the best plants and trees available in Australia, and there is no need to say that Australia has a rich legacy of plants and trees.
The idea was to display a scientific collection of local species in total, as many as possible, and as you can see, they have succeeded in their attempt. I have searched their brochures and found that this botanic area opened to the public about 55 years ago has almost 6,800 species grown anywhere in Australia.

This particular point at the eastern end of the lake is Mt. Ainslie, which is also popular for its nature reserves. This particular point is Canberra's Nature Park, which has forest areas, great bird life, and wetlands. This area is Canberra's conservation reserve and largest wetland, where you can find different species of waterbirds.
Tourists from all over the world highly value landscape design, so much so that you visit this spot at any time to find them, whatever the time.
However, we cannot say the same about this telecommunications tower, as the Canbarrans protested when the local government decided to install it here on Black Mountain. The protest came from all quarters, but now they have accepted it and accepted it as an added attraction to the area.
It was getting dark here so I started climbing up towards Telstra Tower where my wife was supposed to meet.
The Telstra Tower is Canberra's tallest landmark. Yes, it is supposed to be 195 meters above the summit. The Telstra Tower brings people from all over the world, and Canberran bikers have accepted it as their meeting point, where they park their motorcycles for a while before moving to their next destination.
The Telstra Tower has a unique lighting system lights up the tower in various colors.
The main view that attracts travelers along these walking trails is that you can see many features of Canberra, including the entire city and Lake Burley Griffin. The beauty of landscape designs will fill your heart with joy and satisfaction as you walk along and never want to stop.

This area was open to the public at almost the same time, maybe a few years here or there as tree planting and this artificial lake, the main attraction of Canberra, which was filled in 1964 about half a century later when Marion Mahony Griffin's designed the city of Canberra in 1913.
It was 6.15 and the sun had already started to go behind the hills. I didn't want to but it was time to leave the place. I could see the locals were still arriving and walking around. Whenever I come to this place I find myself in a soft and peaceful atmosphere. Now as the sun is going behind the hill to his home, I feel it's time for us to go home as well.

Wow, some beautiful views from up there! What an interesting idea to build an actual accessible lookout up there in the tower... pretty much all such mountain top towers I have seen have just been bare metal masts.
Thanks, unfortunately, the place is closed for maintenance so you can watch it from the ground level only.
