A few years ago I was in Myanmar, where I started and ended my trip in Yangon, the capital. The last few days of my vacation was spent on Inle Lake, one of Myanmar's most popular tourist destinations. We stayed at the Golden Island Cottages- a beautiful hotel located on the eastern side of the lake. Just like the villages on the lake, the hotel is built on stilts, but does have a connection to the mainland behind the restaurant area.
To get to the hotel we took a boat from the little town and gateway to the lake – Nyaung Shwe. It took about an hour and upon arrival we were met by a welcomming staff and a little band playing. The hotel has attractive and very comfortable cottages with a little veranda where we sat with our coffee in the morning. When we walked around inside our cottage we could feel a slight movement and hear the soft sound of the water moving beneath us.
During the daytime we were in a boat, visiting villages on stilts, the floating gardens and the ancient stupas at Inthein. The afternoons were spent at the hotel where we enjoyed walking along the wooden walkways to enjoy the view of the lake and the hills as the sun was setting.
The sunsets were absolutely amazing! As the sun disapeared in the horizon, we went to dinner. The restaurant has excellent food serving local dishes using vegetables grown on the lake.
The photos were taken on two different afternoons, but the light and the sunsets were absolutely amazing both afternoons. It was the perfect place to stay.

Thank you Ulla for such wonderful photo series from the cottage at Inle Lake. First I did not think that the little houses are hotel cottages. The good thing is they are all staying separate so like you little house. I can imagine how you were staying late outside to see the wonder of sun going down. Beauty of location and great memories for the tourists.
Thank you for your comment. It's a wonderful place to stay. I think that to stay at a cottage style hotel like this, on the eastern side of the lake will provide great sunsets on the lake. It was a great place to end our travels.
