My Digital Artwork

The trio of gundams you see above aren't actually connected in one series or timeline or gundam universe. They are the first model kit builds of a gunpla modeler who commissioned me for the above artwork.

The Gundams are the following (next 3 images from google):

Gundam Kimaris Vidar

Astray Blue Frame Gundam

ZZ Gundam

I had to think hard when I made the sketch for this because I wanted the final output to be as balanced as possible. So, I though of having the ones at the side facing sideways towards the middle, and the one in the middle facing front.

I started of making the 2 at the sides, here's the basic lineart I made:

Then, I added more details onto them, like their backpacks, additional panel lines, small mechanical details, and fixed some lineworks as well.

Afterwards, I started drawing the Astray Blue Frame Gundam in the middle of the first two.

I had to make sure that they're all relatively leveled in the frame even if all their look and aesthetics are definitely different.

Here they are with some basic flat colors added in.

Then I applied the first layer of shadows on this next image:

This next photo is the final output. I've added a second layer of shadows here. Some highlights and color fixes. Made some custom decals and stickers as well. I also added repeating vector textures to the background as an additional touch!

Overall, I enjoyed making this artwork even though it required me hours of work that stretched out for almost 2 weeks of intermittently drawing and designing them. I also liked that the requestor loved the final piece very much. Her name is Rippy and she supports artists a lot by commissioning them for art pieces. Awesome girl!

I hope you enjoyed this artwork, even if you're not into gundams or mecha. I'm very proud of this work since I can see the improvements I had versus the previous gundam-related artworks I made months ago.
