The Cost of a Movie, the Cost of War and the Cost of Living!
Today, we went and did something we have not done in a very long time: We went to the movies. At an actual movie theater!
Mrs. Denmarkguy and I discussed for a short while and concluded that the last time we actually set foot in a movie theater was in November of 2019. That's a long time, especially for a couple of people who really enjoy movies!
Middle son (32) who lives with us in the winter when his work lays him off for 90 days, wanted to see the new Batman movie, and was inviting.
Somehow, we seem to have "fallen behind," in terms of what it costs to be alive and living in the world. $16.00 each for movie tickets (including sales tax)— when did that happen? Including sodas, popcorn and a couple of snacks... we're talking almost $100 for a movie night for three people. When did that happen?
As we drove to the movie theater in the neighboring town — about 25 miles/40km away — we also noticed that the price of gas has increased by about 30% since last time we filled up the car... in mid-February. What did that happen?
Wait... don't answer that! There's a war going on, and some of the losers in that equation include millions of people around the world for whom the cost of living is now rocketing skywards... and that's in addition to the fact that inflation has been ramping up as a result of two years of stagnation during Covid-19.
It seems rather ironic that we just are getting past a bunch of health-related restrictions on movement that kept lots of people from traveling and going anywhere... and now that that is being lifted, the cost of travel is increasing so much that people simply won't be able to afford to travel anywhere!
We looked at each other on the way back from the movies and realized that it seems increasingly unlikely that the already twice postponed (by Covid) trip back to Denmark we were planning for 2023 will come to pass, because it seems likely that the cost of airfare is set to go up by at least 50%... and with the unrest in Ukraine, who even knows what travel from the US to Europe will be like, a year from now?
Sometimes, I find it very challenging to maintain a positive attitude about it all!

I really like your story. I share your point of view, it is not easy to maintain a positive aptitude in the face of all the adversities that are presented to us at every moment. Things as basic and common as going to the cinema and enjoying a good movie have become almost impossible to do. I no longer remember the last time I went to a cinema. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us.

Yes, in the sense that it reminds me to focus on the good things we can still have and do. Soon, it will be spring and we will work on expanding our vegetable garden and work outside in the sun. We learn to adjust our lives in such a way that can put our energy into the good things all around us!
