The Challenge of Sticking to Something in the LONG Run!
Happy Halloween, everyone!
This morning — because it is the final day of October — I found myself starting the usual monthly "taking stock" of the various projects I am involved with.
Of course, one of those many projects is Steemit, and I realized that it was the 69th monthly time I'd looked back on a month of blogging here. It's not like a create some kind of "formal report" or anything like that, just a quick comparison of the beginning and end of the month.
The thing that struck me was the fact that "blogging on Steemit" has gradually become one of my long term projects, along with my eBay old/rare stamps business (since May 1998); my art business of painting stones (about 13 years) and my free-lance work as a book editor (since the late 1980's)
It was a valuable reminder that success at almost everything requires a long term commitment to whatever it is you're undertaking. Just "dabbling" a little bit and hoping for great results is just not very... realistic.
Social media in our day and age is another long game.
Sure, we like to see and admire those who had some crazy idea that "went viral" overnight, and while such incidences might well be newsworthy, they are not representative of how life generally works. They are just exceptions.
Planning your supermarket trip around buying a scratch-off lottery ticket and winning when you get there is probably not the best way to approach life!
Even though I got to Steemit fairly early, I have never managed to become a "Big Whale," in part because I have never had enough money invest additionally, above and beyond what I get in rewards.
Self-employment definitely affords its own variations of freedom, but it has never been a path to affluence for me.
However, I don't let that deter me from sticking to what I am doing... and pursuing these long term projects.
I October, I was able to increase my stake here by 203.62 SteemPower, and whereas that is no great fortune, it's certainly a nice "sideline savings program" for doing something I really enjoy: Writing.
Things are quite challenging, financially, these days. A lot of people are feeling "the squeeze," in one way or another... and I often find myself looking around, pondering what expenses we can cut next.
The slightly alarming thing is that we all eventually reach a point where there is no more cutting that can be reasonably done, unless we're willing to leave our houses to live in our cars, or in a tent.
I'm feeling hopeful that we may be due for a "Christmas Rally" in the crypto markets... but I am not going to hold my breath!
In the meantime, time to hunker down and keep plugging with those long-term projects!
Thanks for reading, and have a great week ahead!
How about YOU? Do you have long term projects you've been working with for many years? How long have you been part of the Steemit community? Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
