Symbolism of Weather as the New Year is "Blown" In and Brings Change!
As you might have noticed in my last few posts, we had a sudden Arctic snowstorm and "deep freeze" here, starting on Christmas Day.
It was some of the coldest weather we've had in the 16-odd years I have lived here, and we snow on top of ice, and our roads were all but impossible to drive on, so we just stayed at home and made do with whatever we had in the house.
Christmas night
What was also unusual about it was that it stayed with us for as long as it did. We do get some snow around here, but it typically melts again after a couple of days. This time, not so much... it rather reminded me of the much colder days of growing up in Denmark in the winter.
Today, there was sudden change!
Suddenly it became very windy, and the temperatures went from about 20 degrees (-7 C) overnight to about 41 degrees (+5 C) in a matter of a few hours... and with the warmer wind, it was almost like taking a hair dryer to the snow... it started melting very quickly.
A couple of days ago...
Over our afternoon coffee, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I talked about how it was symbolic of the changes of the year.
We just were in a year that put a lot of people in the "deep freeze," in many ways... whether it was getting Covid, losing your job, canceled holidays and whatever... and it just dragged on and on.
Then, suddenly come the winds of change! And they can be destructive... there were trees down, and the electricity went out for a while... but all along, the snow melted rapidly, and as I look outside now (a little after midnight) there's barely a patch of snow in sight. Just a couple of days ago, we wondered whether it would ever end!
It's funny how change in our environment can sometimes be a great motivator... after several days of moping around a bit and not feeling very motivated, I suddenly feel a lot more enthusiastic about getting started on new projects and moving forward!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great first week of 2022!
