Photographing Architecture. Vitebsky railway station, main staircase

Vitebsk railway station is a very beautiful Art Nouveau building and at the same time a unique engineering structure. The station was built in the early 20th century. The trains to the suburban imperial residence used to leave from the station. Although separate rooms were furnished for royalty, the interiors of the 1st class public halls were also decorated with great care. Travellers entered the grand entrance hall through tall doors and ascended the wide marble staircase to the waiting room. Every detail here is worthy of a separate photograph and description, but if I were to do so, my post would quickly turn into an art historical treatise. So I have limited myself to two additional pictures.

Витебский вокзал это очень красивое здание в стиле модерн и одновременно уникальное инженерное сооружение. Вокзал был построен в начале XX века. С этого вокзала отправлялись поезда в загородную царскую резиденцию. Хотя для царственных особ были отделаны отдельные помещения, интерьеры залов для публики 1 класса тоже были оформлены с особой тщательностью. Через высокие двери путешественники заходили в парадный вестибюль и поднимались в зал ожидания по широкой мраморной лестнице. Каждая деталь здесь достойна отдельной фотографии и описания, но если я займусь этим, то мой пост быстро превратится в искусствоведческий трактат. Поэтому я ограничилась двумя дополнительными снимками.

The door is shown in the first of the additional photos of the door. The low and narrow door leads to utility room, yet it too is decorated with Art Nouveau-style ornaments. The last picture shows the lift door. The photo is technically imperfect because of the conditions of the shooting. If you turn right from the main staircase you reach a small nook where hardly any sunlight reaches from the huge lobby windows. This is where the door of the antique lift is hidden.

На первом из них изображена дверь. Эта невысокая узкая дверь ведёт в подсобные помещения, тем не менее и она тоже украшена орнаментами в стиле модерн. На последней фотографии запечатлена дверь лифта. Фотография технически несовершенна из-за условий съёмки. Если повернуть с парадной лестницы направо, попадаешь в небольшой закуток, куда почти не достигает солнечный свет из огромных окон вестибюля. Именно там и спряталась дверь старинного лифта.
