I took this image while at a re-enactment event in Bude, Cornwall. The Sealed Knot re-enactment group recreated a decisive battle during the civil war in England on the 16th May 1643: The Battle of Stratton, or Stamford Hill. The battle began on Tuesday, 16th May at dawn. "Hedgehogs" of Royalist pikemen moved to attack, with support from musketeers and light artillery. For nearly ten hours the fight went to and fro, until the Cavaliers had used all their ammunition. Then they decided to turn to their weapons and swords. The march up the hill of the troops struck terror in the Roundheads and they wavered and victory was seized by Grenville, whose regiment scaled the summit of the hill and won.
