Revelation 1: 4-7
Those present at the 2019 Morehouse College graduation ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia were stunned when the speaker announced that he and his family would donate millions of dollars to pay off the student debt of all graduates. A student - with $ 100,000 in loans - was among those who expressed their joy with tears and exclamations.
Most of us have had debts of some kind: paying for the house, cars, studies, medical services or other things. But we have also experienced the amazing relief of seeing an invoice stamped: "PAID"!
After declaring Jesus Christ "the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the sovereign of the kings of the earth," John worshiped his work that canceled the debt: "To him who loved us and washed us from our sins with his blood ”(Revelation 1: 5). This statement is simple but with deep meaning. Better than the surprising announcement that those graduates heard is the good news that Jesus' death (the shedding of his blood on the cross) frees us from the punishment our sinful attitudes, desires, and deeds deserve. Those who believe in Christ have their debt canceled and they will have a part in the kingdom of God (v. 6). This is the best news of all!
Lord, thank you for paying off my debt!

Los presentes en la ceremonia de graduación en 2019 de Morehouse College, en Atlanta, Georgia quedaron pasmados cuando el orador anunció que él y su familia donarían millones de dólares para cancelar la deuda estudiantil de todos los graduados. Un alumno —con 100.000 dólares en préstamos— estaba entre aquellos que expresaban su alegría con lágrimas y exclamaciones.
La mayoría hemos tenido deudas de alguna clase: pagar la casa, los autos, los estudios, los servicios médicos u otras cosas. Pero también hemos experimentado el asombroso alivio de ver que en una factura se estampaba: ¡«PAGADO»!
Después de declarar a Jesucristo «el testigo fiel, el primogénito de los muertos, y el soberano de los reyes de la tierra», Juan reconoció con adoración su obra que cancelaba la deuda: «Al que nos amó, y nos lavó de nuestros pecados con su sangre» (Apocalipsis 1:5). Esta declaración es simple pero con un profundo significado. Mejor que el sorprendente anuncio que escucharon aquellos graduados es la buena noticia de que la muerte de Jesús (el derramamiento de su sangre en la cruz) nos libra del castigo que merecen nuestras actitudes, deseos y obras pecaminosas. A los que creen en Cristo se les cancela la deuda y tendrán una parte en el reino de Dios (v. 6). ¡Esta es la mejor noticia de todas!
Señor, ¡gracias por saldar mi deuda!
