The guayacán or guayaco is a native tree of tropical America, with wide distribution in the Caribbean islands (especially Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic), Colombia, Panama, Venezuela and Costa Delicious. It is frequently found in low-lying, stony, flat places, but it can also be part of the dry forest up to 500m.
El guayacán o guayaco es un árbol nativo de América tropical, con amplia distribución en las islas del Caribe (especialmente Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba y República Dominicana), Colombia, Panamá, Venezuela y Costa Rica. Frecuentemente se encuentra en lugares llanos poco elevados y pedregosos, pero también puede formar parte del bosque seco hasta los 500m.

Designated by the regional executive on May 30, 1952 as "Emblematic Tree of Nueva Esparta State" because "the Guayacán is a sufficiently widespread tree in the island territory, its strength is quite marked, its freshness and greenness are perennial and it has a great capacity to adapt to the environment.
Designado por el ejecutivo regional el día 30 de Mayo del año 1.952 como "Árbol emblemático del Estado Nueva Esparta "por ser" el Guayacán un árbol suficientemente generalizado en el territorio insular, su fortaleza es bastante marcada, su frescura y verdor son perennes y, posee una gran capacidad de adaptación al medio.
