WOX TRAVEL CONTEST | PASSAU
Passau - Bavaria's hidden treasure
Passau is a small town in southeastern Germany, located near the border with Austria. The city is known as a university center and over 8,000 students study there every year. Deprived of the usual commercialism of major tourist destinations, Passau definitely has something to impress.
From the distant year 1217, when it was founded, until today, Passau preserves history, traditions, culture, architecture. And all this in combination with a modernist spirit that marked the development of the city and the infrastructure.
Typically Bavarian, typically German, typically medieval. Passau impresses with its imposing buildings, which give off features from the Baroque and Gothic. The city is small, with a population of about 50,000 people, and is often called the pearl of Bavaria, the hidden jewel or the German treasure.
It is also called "The City of the Three Rivers"
because of the place where the rivers Inn from the south, Ilz from the north and the Danube meet. An incredible piece of land with a peaceful atmosphere, breathtaking views and centuries of history. With its one-of-a-kind natural spectacle of the confluence of three rivers, Passau certainly claims a unique paradise nestled in the heart of the Bavarian Alps.
To enjoy the view and the confluence of the three rivers, you can sit in the Veste Oberhaus fortress, located on one bank of the Danube. From this point you can convince yourself of the unique charm and extraordinary beauty of this place.
Another interesting place in Passau is the highest point in the Old Town, where St. Stephen's Cathedral is located. It houses the largest organ in the world, consisting of 17,774 pipes. To this day, the organ announces liturgies and services in the temple, and its acoustics fill the entire city.
Passau will tell you a fairy tale, walking along its romantic avenues, enjoying its beautiful nature or impressive architecture, or falling into the world of its rich cultural program, announced by the sounds of the largest organ in the world.
Traveling is a way of life. Necessity. Passion. It's how I manage to reinvent myself when I need to. The way out of my reality. The way to simply feel life in its variety. We are lucky because today we have the opportunity to see different places, to taste the colorfulness of different cultures, to meet different people from every corner of the Earth. As long as we want! My dream is to turn around in 50 years and say: "I managed to see everything I want!". I wish it to you too!
