Playing photographer #27 - Skoda locomotive
The Todor Kableshkov Higher Transport School was established as a State Railway School by Royal Decree in 1922 and has a fully military organizational structure. Since 2000, the school has been demilitarized.
The Higher Transport School "Todor Kableshkov" is one of the oldest higher technical schools in Bulgaria, which trains personnel for the transport sector and all related spheres of the country's social and economic life.
On the territory of the school complex there is a large area where several exhibits of old locomotives are located. Their type is authentic and preserved. Even the smell of engine oil can be felt, which adds an extra atmosphere.
The appearance of the product in the "art deco" style is the brainchild of the famous Czechoslovak designer in the 60s of the last century - Prof. Eng. Otakar Diblik ( Otakar Diblnk) . The characteristic rounded look with two huge panoramic windows at the front is achieved thanks to a new material used for the production of the basket. Polyester laminate (or as it was known at the time - glass mat) is a material that is adored for work by all designers in the world, because it allows to achieve the desired shapes with simple means, without using expensive equipment, such as metal presses and a bunch more complex metalworking machines.
By the way, a little-known fact is that initially the prototype was actually the infamous six-axle locomotive with a similar body 47E, designated in Czechoslovakia as S699. This locomotive at that time was produced as a single copy at the insistence of the Soviet authorities. However, after their refusal to order it for serial production, this single prototype was transferred to the Prague Testing Institute (1965) for further experimental work on the creation of a six-axle electric locomotive. Then his gearbox had a changed translation ratio from 1:3.2 to 1:2.8 and even in some cases he developed a speed of 200 km/h on the test site.
According to the historical data of the Railway Institute in Prague, locomotive S699 . 01 has passed road tests in our country in the section Gorna Oryahovitsa-Rusein 1965 after which BDZ finally stopped and chose for the future series 42 to be a similar but four-axle locomotive.
