This story happened, or would not have happened if I had not invented it, many years ago in a small Scottish village, somewhere near the sea, where the hills covered with lush grass merge on the horizon with sea waves and the clouds are rapidly rushing across the sky driven by north winds.

A large family lived there from generation to generation, which passed on their traditions and way of life from the elderly to children.

In the rocky soil of the island, it was difficult to cultivate the land, but the lush grass provided excellent food for the numerous flocks of sheep that all members of this family grazed.

The youngest was little Kirk, whom everyone called the "lazy king".

The fact is that when it was his turn to graze the sheep, he found a million reasons not to do it, then, his leg hurts, or his stomach hurts, then he must do very important lessons, otherwise he will receive a scolding from his teacher.

But when he was alone, he went to explore the island, he was looking for Goliath.

One day, he was told that he was very similar to the young King David, like him, Kirk was the weakest and most frail in the family.

Kirk decided to repeat the feat of David, but, for this, Goliath was needed.

So the years went by, until, one day, Kirk, already covered with gray hair, suddenly realized where his personal Goliath was hiding.

He took his favorite bagpipe with him, went to the house of each of his sisters and brothers, took all the sheep to pasture and went to distant pastures to celebrate his personal victory over Goliath, his victory over his own laziness!

I decided to illustrate the invented story in this way.

I saw in this picture a landscape similar to the Norwegian fjords, but also such a landscape can be seen in Scotland and Iceland, and since I decided to portray a man who plays the bagpipes, which means I settled on Scotland.

I was wondering what name to give the main character of the story and the picture, so I studied Scottish names and settled on the name Kirk.

I drew this drawing with graphite pencils on A5 paper.

The Scotsman's clothes, the bagpipes, and everything else are fictional, so perhaps you can see some inconsistencies in how these objects look in reality, but this picture is only what I remember.

Gradually, my idea began to take shape and space, at some point I heard music played on a bagpipe.
