"MY CITY IN 10 PHOTOS" by @bambuka

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago (edited)

Great challenge from @xpilar - show 10 photos of your city. In fact, it is simply impossible to show the whole city in 10 photos. Even the same place at different times of the year looks different. And there are many such places.

For this reason, I decided to go to my archive and look for photographs typical of my city at different times of the year and day.

So, I must say right away that I live in St. Petersburg (Russia). And in fact, this city is quite ancient. It is older than its official history, according to which Emperor Peter the Great founded it. In fact, he restored it, but that's another story. And it's time for us to look at the modern city.

Let's start our acquaintance with the city from its center. This is the main square of the city - Palace Square. Here you can see the Winter Palace (to the right ... the name of the square comes from it). The palace houses the main museum of the city - the Hermitage. And to the left is the Main Admiralty. In this building, I fought for my higher education for five years.

And, of course, the Pillar of Alexandria. He is crowned by a guardian angel who hovers over the city. This is the highest point in the old city. The history of this creation is also shrouded in mystery. Someone believes that the pillar was carved from a single piece of granite, according to another version, it was cast in parts in the formwork. With special shooting, you can even see the seams between the fills. This technology is now lost.

Speaking of the city, it is impossible not to show its central river - the Neva. It connects Lake Ladoga with the Baltic Sea and the city stands on its delta. Therefore, there are many canals and rivers. The Neva embankment is a favorite place for citizens and tourists. In sunny weather, it is especially beautiful here.

Autumn view of the Kryukov Canal. This is one of the many canals of the old city center. Autumn gold gives the channel a festive look. There is a bridge nearby, from which 7 bridges can be seen at once. This place is called so, Semimostye.

Sadovaya street in the rays of the evening sun. This is one of my favorite streets. There are a lot of old beautiful houses here, there is a tram and there are always a lot of people. A very busy street.

Another wonderful place. Winter groove. Why Winter? Because it "cuts through" the Winter Palace and flows into the Neva. You see an air bridge that leads from one building of the palace to another. Also a very beautiful place. It is often visited by tourists and wedding photographers like to hold photo sessions here.

Very close to the Winter Canal are the famous Atlantes. Each statue is exactly the same as the other. It is believed that they were also cast from granite, like the Pillar of Alexandria. The figures of these Atlanteans are perfect, they can be used to study human anatomy.

The history of the city would be incomplete if I did not show you the Petersburg courtyards. Unfortunately I can't show more of them (post limited to 10 photos). Each yard is unique, but all of them are united by the idea of the city. There are yards that connect different streets (passage yards), others are just inside the houses. They are all different.

DSC06135.jpg

This is also a courtyard, but it has been turned into a creative zone. The walls of the houses inside the courtyards do not always look fun, but if you approach this matter outside the box... You can get interesting art objects.

And, of course, the inhabitants of the city. Traditionally, in the metropolis you can meet representatives of any nation, of any age and occupation. These young guys entertain citizens and tourists with music and singing. The place is located next to the Vasileostrovskaya metro station at the beginning of the pedestrian street on Vasilyevsky Island.

Since we ended up on Vasilyevsky Island (in the Neva Delta), we will end our tour here. On the left you see the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island, and in the distance is another symbol of St. Petersburg - the Peter and Paul Fortress. Before you is the expanse of the Neva, here it is divided into two branches, and the star fortress itself is located on a small island. Once it guarded the passage along the Neva, it was a prison for political prisoners in tsarist times, and now there is the Mint and museums.

I did not have time to show you the winter and spring city. I will show it to you in separate posts out of competition. Here you can walk and admire the views for ages. Thanks to the organizer for a wonderful topic, I realized that I pay little attention to my beloved city and it's time for me to take a camera and go to several photo shoots around the city blocks.

The competition rules can be read here. Connect and show your cities.

Glad to see you @jorgevandeperre and thank you for your kind words!
The history of this city is really rich and just as mysterious. There are many places here that do not fit into the official history. I need to explore this city more.

The official history is the most dubious of stories.

Благодарствую на добром слове :)
Предполагаю, что этот город наиболее насыщен красотой и историей из всех мне известных. Разве что Севастополь могу с ним сравнить, но там своя особая атмосфера.

Thanks kindly your support is appreciated!

Estoy encantada con tus fotografías amigo. Son realmente increíbles.. Felicidades.
