Balaklava - #club100

Formally, Balaklava is one of the districts of Sevastopol. But this area is separated from the city by a large undeveloped rocky part. We got here by bus as a separate city, and I used to think so until I started preparing this post and looked into the directory.

This is a rather ancient settlement, which was mentioned by Homer in his "Odyssey" as the harbor of Lamos. The town is located on the shores of Balaklava Bay. From the sea you see only the entrance to the bay, but not Balaklava itself. The bay is narrow (200-400 m) and deep (up to 17 m), there are no storms in it. At the entrance to the bay, the rocky shore makes several turns.

Previously, the USSR submarine base was located right in the rocks. The boats entered the bay and ... disappeared into the rock. You can imagine how desirable it is to own such a bay.

Формально Балаклава является одним из районов Севастополя. Но этот район отделён от города большой незастроенной скалистой частью. Мы добирались сюда автобусом как в отдельный город и раньше я так и думал, пока не начал готовить этот пост и заглянул в справочник.

Это достаточно древнее поселение, которое упоминал ещё Гомер в своей "Одиссее" как гавань Ламоса. Городок расположен на берегах Балаклавской бухты. С моря вы видите лишь вход в бухту, но не саму Балаклаву. Бухта узкая (200—400 м) и глубокая (до 17 м), в ней не бывает штормов. При входе в бухту скалистый берег делает несколько поворотов.

Раньше прямо в скалах располагалась база подводных лодок СССР. Лодки заходили в бухту и ... исчезали в скале. Можете себе представить, насколько желанным является обладание такой бухтой.

A few random shots taken while visiting Balaklava. This place deserves a more conscious approach in the choice of composition and photography style. Next time (hopefully this year) I'll take a tripod and some lenses with me. This place should be devoted to at least one day, and possibly a night.

We were going on one of the boats to visit the beaches, which are only accessible from the sea. But... an accident intervened. On the pier, my companion seriously injured her leg and we had to urgently go to the emergency room. Everything worked out with the leg, but the day was ruined. We almost did nothing. Therefore, you should return here in any case.
