Pencil Drawing, New Competition - No. 41
Hello!
This is my first time entering a piece for an art competition here- how exciting!
I drew this girl picking a flower, I was a bit stumped for ideas on what to draw for quite a while, but this came to me suddenly and I knew I wanted to get it down on paper.
Tools:
I used textured fine art paper, HB pencil and 3 erasable colouring pencils!
I started off with a sketch to try and figure out the layout of my drawing. I had a bit of trouble with this as I didn't use any references this time, I usually do when I draw but I couldn't find any I wanted.
I erased the sketchy lines and left the tidier lines as I wanted to tidy up the sketch before getting properly into it.
Then I went and outlined all the remaining lines to make it very bold. I normally do digital art on my iPad, I've been trying to get back into traditional art so this was a fun experiment.
I outlined the hair, socks and other small details just to bring it to life a bit! I love adding the little details into my work.
First initial bit of shading done with my HB pencil. It's a bit rough and a bit messy as I was trying to be loose and lighter with it! Otherwise I would probably fixate on shading it for too long haha.
Here's the blue colour added in! I've always been very fond of using colouring pencils when drawing- so I actually rarely use HB pencils, but I wanted to use the HB pencils for this competition anyway. I love adding pops of colour into drawings! I used a softer blue to colour in the bigger areas, and then I pressed harder with the blue to colour in the smaller areas so it would stand out more.
Here's a photo of the drawing with the flash so you can see a bit more in detail.
This is the finished drawing!
I'm looking forward to doing more drawings for these competitions again! I hope the use of colouring pencils was ok. :)
Thank you for reading!
the drawing should be in black and white, but I approve of this
