They come like hungry wolves devouring every sea creature they could find living the poor local fishermen with nothing but hardship and regret. The local villagers called them the "SEA Crawlers" as their heavy machinery scoop tons of fishes both big and small, nets spread wide and vast like human palms grabbing everything that swims. This was the worry of Old Jerry as he was fondly called. Old Jerry was the oldest of all fishermen, at night he can be found near the sea shore surrounded by teenage boys like ants as he told stories of the good old days. When the sea was free of the crawlers and the ordinary fisherman always had a treat to take home to his family. When there was less competition and everybody flourished like blossoming flowers at summer until the Sea Crawlers showed up like it was an alien invasion, with their big ships ravaging the waters and grabbing everything they could catch. The villagers fell into despair, hunger became the order of the day evidential with little kids with swollen tummy, big heads and tiny limbs like a dried up twig during harmattan.

It dawned on the villagers they had to find a greener pasture where they can call home and rebuild their lives. They were no match for the Sea Crawlers. To add to their helplessness most folks wouldn't want to take the risk of exploring other places in search for a greener pasture, the sea was violent at that period, there was a popular myth to this turbulence believed to be a clash between Poseidon and King Neptune. Of all the villagers Old Jerry was the most concerned, the thoughts of living was a torn in his flesh as he had spent all his years in this village, he was familiar with everyone and his experience in fishing earned him a lot of respect but he knew that a greener pasture was a solution to their problem. Old Jerry as a teenager was engrossed with the tales of an Island where the sun rise was an outpouring of goldeen rays breaking through the clouds, where the waters were as clear as crystal and the best species of fish were in abundance. It was the fisherman's paradise. Old Jerry made up his mind to seek out this place even though it sounded like a fairy tale land in a fictional story.
The cheers were so loud as Old Jerry embarked on his journey, he was the towns hero willing to take the risk and to save the village from destruction. Old Jerry took his favorite canoe with him filled up with supplies. Embarking on this journey alone his thoughts kept him company, the thoughts of eventually locating this paradise energised him. He had smoked fish and dried lentils for breakfast this reminded him of his first fishing experience as a child. After days of sailing everything seemed perfect and the sea was calm like a child fast asleep. Feeling relaxed old Jerry fell asleep. Like two vehicles in a collusion, Old Jerry was woken up by the sound of thunder then came a rushing wind bashing and rocking the boat violently as the cloud became darker like coal. It was the scariest sight to behold as Old Jerry held on to his boat for safety. Old Jerry concluded that it was the end, he could see his life flash between his eyes as a monstrous wave tossed his boat. It was going to be a long struggle as he gasped for breath. He was closer to his watery grave as the wave tossed him effortlessly then he blacked out.
Urgggh... Old Jerry groaned as the light rays of the sun hit his face, his head was still banging from the previous day horror. As he gradually opened his eyes, he was amazed at the sight before him, it was exactly as the tales described, it was home. The sun was smiling happily, the air was cleaner, the waters were clearer and there was abundance of vegetation, it was indeed a fishermans Paradise where the sun never sets.
