And finally, after a last bend in that arid and cold gorge through which the winding road ran, they saw the shore of the lake. The lake of the Red Maidens. A strange name that must hide an even stranger story. There, to the east, the lake was long and narrow, surrounded by cliffs. Later it would open up. But first they would have to decide if it was worth making a raft to cross it to the Clarisa jetties on the other shore, so as not to be exposed on the surrounding plains. They would decide after a well-deserved rest.

Y por fin, tras un doblar un último recodo de aquella garganta árida y fría por el que discurría el sinuoso camino, vislumbraron la orilla del lago. El lago de las Doncellas Rojas. Extraño nombre que debía esconder alguna historia todavía más extraña. Por allá, por el este, el lago era largo y estrecho, rodeado de acantilados. Más adelante se abría. Pero primero tendrían que decidir si merecía la pena fabricar una balsa para surcarlo hasta los embarcaderos de Clarisa, en la otra orilla, para no quedar expuestos en las llanuras que lo rodeaban. Lo decidirían después de darse un merecido descanso.
