San Cristobal is a sanctuary near the town of Villarrubia de los ojos, in the southern foothills of the Sierra de la Calderina, in the Montes de Toledo. There is located the so-called "Mirador de la Mancha", from whose height you can glimpse the breadth of the plain of the Western Mancha and the Campo de Calatrava.
San Cristóbal es un santuario cercano a la localidad de Villarrubia de los ojos, en las estribaciones meridionales de la Sierra de la Calderina, en los Montes de Toledo. Allí está situado el denominado "Mirador de la Mancha", desde cuya altura se puede vislumbrar la amplitud de la llanura de la Mancha Occidental y el Campo de Calatrava.

It is a challenge to do rocks in watercolour sometimes they look very dirty as watercolour mixes with dark colours and just creates dark puddles. Your painting is showing how to create such pattern that gives an impression of sunny side of stones and also the parts of stones in shadow :)

Well, to paint a group of rocks, the most important thing is to control the illuminated areas and those that are in shadow. To do this, you have to be very clear about where the light is projected from and also to consider the shadows cast by some stones on others. What I do is to make a small wet wash on what will be the stones, with small chromatic variations that serve for the illuminated areas. Sometimes I spray coarse salt on the wet water to produce random textures. When it dries, I give another gouache more loaded with pigment with a bluish intonation for the shadow zones, with small variations in the tonalities. When everything is dry, I give the deeper dark shapes with more black or payne’s grey tones. I also paint the lichens. I may abuse the long brushstroke, but it is my way.
