Apenas habían transcurrido doce horas del ataque de los alienígenas a las fragatas que patrullaban las proximidades de GB01, cuando repentinamente un nuevo grupo de tres naves, salió de impulso, esta vez a poco más de dos mil kilómetros de GB01, iniciando un ataque a las naves de la flota que se encontraban al frente de la custodia de la estación y a la estación misma.
―Maldición esto tipos no escarmientan ―dijo el vicealmirante Almeida, que se encontraba en el puente de la Sorrento junto al almirante Olsen, mientras se disponía a regresar de inmediato a la Leónidas ―. Con permiso almirante, regreso a la Leónidas ―se despidió y luego se dirigió al hangar para tomar un transporte de regreso a su nave.
El trayecto de la Sorrento a la Leónidas le llevó a Oliver unos pocos minutos, durante los cuales pudo escuchar las transmisiones, las naves involucradas en la acción, siete fragatas y un destructor, participaban en la defensa de la estación, y al parecer la situación favorecía a los alienígenas, a pesar de su inferioridad numérica.
―Deme un informe de la situación ―dijo a su primer oficial, al llegar al puente.
―Son sólo tres naves, pero al parecer, sus sistemas de defensa han sido modulados para contrarrestar nuestras armas, los disparos de los cañones de plasma son inefectivos, sólo las armas de impacto cinéticas son efectivas, pero la velocidad de sus naves es muy superior a la de respuesta de nuestros cañones ―explicó el primer oficial.
―Bien, pongamos en marcha entonces ―dijo Oliver.
La Leónidas se sumó al combate, participando como escolta de la Sorrento, que también fue llamada a la acción. En pocos segundos, el acorazado, junto a otras cuatro fragatas estuvieron en medio de la batalla, a su llegada, ya tres de las fragatas habían sido seriamente dañadas y el acorazado Ganímedes estaba siendo evacuado, tras un disparo directo que inutilizo tres de sus cuatro motores.
De inmediato, los cañones de rail electromagnético de todas las naves, empezaron la disparar pesados proyectiles de tungsteno, a velocidades de un décimo de la de la luz, capaces de desintegrar a una nave, al impactarla, sin embargo, su velocidad resultaba insuficiente para alcanzar a las naves enemigas a la distancia.
Por el contrario, los disparos de los cañones de plasma de las naves alienígenas, golpeaban fácilmente a las naves humanas, logrando sacar de combate a otras tres fragatas.
―Desde aquí, no lograremos hacerles nada. Teniente …―dijo Oliver, hablándole al piloto ―. Fije las coordenadas de la nave más lejana a nosotros y prepárese para impulsarnos a medio kilómetro de ella, a mi mando ―dijo ―. Apunten todas las armas al frente y prepárense para abrir fuego… ―hizo una pausa ―. Impúlsenos ahora.
En menos de un segundo, la Leónidas recorrió los escasos cuatro mil kilómetros que la separaban de la nave alienígena, y se situó a bocajarro de ella.
―Disparen cañones de rail, del uno al ocho ―ordenó Oliver, tan pronto la nave salió de impulso.
Una andanada de ocho proyectiles salió disparada y en una fracción de segundo, cuatro de ellos alcanzaron a la nave alienígena, que no tuvo tiempo de responder. En medio de un absoluto silencio, el impacto desintegró la nave convirtiéndola en pequeños fragmentos que se empezaron a dispersar lentamente por el espacio.
La algarabía estalló en el puente de la Leónidas, mientras Oliver observaba en silencio a los fragmentos de la nave enemiga dispersarse. En ese momento una llamada de emergencia entró al comunicador, el reactor de energía de vacío de la Sorrento, había sido impactado directamente, estallando en una singularidad, que había hecho colapsar toda la nave, desintegrando en el acto también, a dos de las fragatas que la escoltaban.
Luego del acabar con ocho fragatas y dos destructores y tras haber perdido una de sus naves, los alienígenas, tal como había llegado, se retiraron, impulsándose fuera del alcance de las restantes naves humanas. Más de quinientos hombres había perecido durante el combate, entre ellos, el almirante Olsen.

Barely twelve hours had passed since the aliens had attacked the frigates patrolling the vicinity of GB01, when suddenly a new group of three ships came out of impulse, this time a little more than two thousand kilometers from GB01, initiating an attack on the ships of the fleet that were in charge of guarding the station and the station itself.
-Damn it, these guys don't let up, - said Vice Admiral Almeida, who was on the bridge of the Sorrento next to Admiral Olsen, while he was getting ready to return immediately to the Leonidas -. Excuse me Admiral, I'm returning to the Leonidas, - he said goodbye and then went to the hangar to take a transport back to his ship.
The journey from the Sorrento to the Leonidas took Oliver a few minutes, during which he could hear the transmissions, the ships involved in the action, seven frigates and a destroyer, were participating in the defense of the station, and apparently the situation favored the aliens, despite their numerical inferiority.
-Give me a status report, -he said to his first officer, as he reached the bridge.
-There are only three ships, but apparently, their defense systems have been modulated to counter our weapons, the plasma cannon fire is ineffective, only the kinetic impact weapons are effective, but the speed of their ships is far superior to the response of our cannons, - explained the first officer.
-Well, let's get going then, -said Oliver.
The Leonidas joined the fight, participating as escort of the Sorrento, which was also called into action. Within seconds, the battleship, along with four other frigates, was in the middle of the battle. When they arrived, three of the frigates had already been seriously damaged and the battleship Ganymede was being evacuated, after a direct hit that disabled three of her four engines.
Immediately, the electromagnetic rail guns of all the ships began firing heavy tungsten projectiles at speeds of one tenth of the speed of light, capable of disintegrating a ship on impact, however, their speed was insufficient to reach the enemy ships at a distance.
On the contrary, the plasma cannon shots of the alien ships easily hit the human ships, managing to knock out three other frigates.
-From here, we won't be able to do anything to them. Lieutenant ... - Oliver said, speaking to the pilot -. Set the coordinates of the ship farthest away from us and prepare to boost us to within half a kilometer of her, on my command - he said -. Point all weapons forward and prepare to open fire... - he paused -. Impulse us now.
In less than a second, the Leonidas had covered the four thousand kilometers that separated it from the alien ship, and was at point-blank range.
-Fire rail guns, one through eight -Oliver ordered, as soon as the ship dropped out of impulse.
A barrage of eight projectiles were fired and in a split second, four of them hit the alien ship, which had no time to respond. Amid absolute silence, the impact disintegrated the ship into small fragments that began to slowly scatter through space.
The din erupted on the bridge of the Leonidas, while Oliver silently watched the fragments of the enemy ship disperse. At that moment an emergency call came in on the communicator, the Sorrento's vacuum energy reactor had been directly hit, exploding in a singularity, which had caused the entire ship to collapse, disintegrating two of the frigates escorting it.
After wiping out eight frigates and two destroyers and having lost one of their ships, the aliens, just as they had arrived, retreated, propelling themselves out of range of the remaining human ships. More than five hundred men had perished during the battle, among them Admiral Olsen.
