What does this girl dream about? That was the question I asked myself when the first lines were revealed to me on paper, and the last one I could answer. The next one was about why cats always slip into my drawings, into my stories, into my photographs, into my life...
This cat seems particularly pleased and a bit mischievous. Don't you think?
I started making a portrait for the wonderful Mid-Term @ Art-Venture traditional art contest (look for the rules here, you could still participate). I knew I wanted to draw the portrait of a sleeping girl, but this cat slipped into my drawing, as always, and I liked leaving it there, in the blockchain, sleeping comfortably in her arms.
When I finished I knew what the girl was dreaming about: she was dreaming about the books she had read. I guess they were cat stories.
Okay, folks, here's what's behind the portrait. Now I'll tell you how I did it.

¿Qué sueña esta muchacha? Fue la pregunta que me hice cuando los primeros trazos se me revelelaron sobre el papel, y la última que pude responder. La siguiente estaba referida a por qué siempre los gatos se cuelan en mis dibujos, en mis relatos, en mis fotografías, en mi vida...
Este gato parece particularmente complacido y algo pícaro. ¿No les parece?
Empecé haciendo un retrato para el maravilloso Concurso de arte tradicional Mid-Term @ Art-Venture (busca las bases aquí, aún podrías participar). Sabía que quería dibujar el retrato de una muchacha dormida, pero este gato se coló en mi dibujo, como siempre, y me gustó dejarlo allí, en la blockchain, durmiendo a gusto en los brazos de ella.
Cuando terminé supe qué soñaba la muchacha: soñaba con los libros que habia leído. Supongo que eran historias de gatos.
Bien, amigos, esto es lo que hay detras del retrato. Ahora les cuento cómo lo hice.

Basic Drawing
First, I made a pencil drawing. I used bond paper 24 and a pencil 2B. I started from the idea I had and drew the guidelines that allowed me to form the drawing. I erased and redrew until what I saw was acceptable.
I realized that I had some problems with line and proportion that I tried to correct during the rest of the execution.

Dibujo de base
Primero, hice un dibujo a lápiz. Usé papel bond 24 y un lapiz 2B. Partí de la idea que tenía y tracé las líneas directrices que me permitieron formar el dibujo. Borré y volví a trazar hasta que lo que vi me pareció aceptable.
Me di cuenta de que tenía algunos problemas de trazo y proporción que traté de corregir durante el resto de la ejecución.

Color palette

I wanted the drawing to translate a certain sweetness, so the colors I chose had to be pleasant in soft tones. At the same time, they had to contrast because I wanted to build two planes: the plane of the dream and the plane of reality. As you can see, the decision was more symbolic than technical.

Quería que el dibujo tradujera cierta dulzura, por lo tanto, los colores que eligiera tenían que ser agradables en tonos suaves. Al mismo tiempo, tenían que contrastar porque quería construir dos planos: el plano del sueño y el plano de la realidad. Como ven, la decisión fue más simbólica que técnica.

The way to apply the color

I made an expressive use of the line, that is, I did not look for tidiness but for a certain disorder. I combined this with the application of color in layers, especially on the hair, to create interesting focal areas. In some areas I used a white bar base, to emphasize both the color and the weft.

La forma de aplicar el color

Hice un uso expresivo del trazo, es decir, no busque prolijidad sino cierto desorden. Combiné con la aplicacion del color por capas, sobre todo en el pelo, para crear zonas focales interesantes. En algunas zonas usé una base blanca de barra de color blanca, para incidir tanto en el color como en la trama.

Coloring
I tried to distribute the color following the palette I had chosen and adding the derivations that were necessary: dark brown in the girl's hair, purple in her blouse and something on the blanket. I adjusted the volumes, darkened where I thought appropriate.
Now all that was left was to outline and adjust small details.
In the process I corrected the arm, the mouth and the nose.

Coloreando
Traté de distribuir el color siguiendo la paleta que había elegido y sumando las derivaciones que se me hicieron necesarias: marrón oscuro en el pelo de la chica, violeta en su blusa y algo en la sábana. Ajusté los volúmenes, oscurecí donde lo crei apropiado.
Ahora solo faltaba contornear y ajustar pequeños detalles.
En el transcurso corregí el brazo, la boca y la nariz.

Delineated
I used a very dark blue for the outline. I didn't want to use black, because I didn't want such strong contrasts. I only used black in three places: the girl's eye, her mouth and the cat's eye.
But what was this girl dreaming about?

Usé un azul muy oscuro para el contorno. No quería usar el negro, porque no quería contrastes tan fuertes. Sólo usé el negro en tres lugares: el ojo de la niña, su boca y el ojo del gato.
¿Pero qué soñaba esta chica?

The idea came to me alone: to cut out small butterflies from an old page to make little symbols of dreams, because...

Well, because this girl dreams of the cat books she's read while hugging a happy and somewhat mischievous cat.

La idea vino sola hasta mí: recortar pequeñas mariposas de una página vieja para hacer pequeños símbolos de los sueños, porque...

Pues, porque esta chica sueña con los libros de gatos que ha leído mientras abraza a un gato feliz y algo pícaro.
