Green Muzzle Beetle "Hypomeces Squamosus"

Its presence goes awry for farmers, becomes a pest because it attacks plants but also pollinates plants.

For the farmers, the greenish-yellow beetle or the scientific name Hypomeces Squamosus is very familiar because this green beetle is a pest that attacks plants. This beetle is very fond of young plants and will usually damage the edges of the leaves and create large tears at the edges of the leaf blades. We often encounter this beetle in oil palm plantations, coconut plantations, rice plants, coffee and so on. The massive increase in land use for oil palm cultivation is very beneficial for the development of pests, one of which is the green beetle hypomeces squamous.

These weevils belong to the herbivorous group, they attack plants to maintain their life by absorbing important nutrients contained in the plant body. Indeed, the presence of this beetle has gone awry for farmers. On the one hand these beetles often eat the leaves of young plants, but the presence of these beetles is also beneficial for the growth of flora and they also have a vital role in pollinating plants. So even though it looks annoying, this beetle cannot be en masse exterminated.

This beetle has a smaller body size than ordinary beetles, very easy to identify because this beetle has an elongated snout. There are also some people who often mistake this beetle as a termite because it has characteristics and habits that resemble termites, when in fact they come from different families. This beetle uses its forewings as a plant borer, and its appearance is somewhat hardened and thick looking like a sheath. Usually the front wings are not used for flying, but as a cover for the body and rear wings. When resting, the wings will fold on the underside of the forewings.

Sometimes I'm call this beetle as a muzzle beetle because it has a long muzzle. I didn't find this snout beetle on plantations, but I did find it in shrubs as I walked through the rice fields. I noticed this beetle does not have aggressive movements, its slow movement makes it very easy for me to get images with very good focus. The weather during on the day and very bright made it all be easy. Hopefully useful and thank you for visiting my blog.
