Bamboo Borer (Chlorophorus Annularis)

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 years ago

I found this fascinating insect in my backyard, a place where I used to go hunting for the insect. This is a bamboo borer (Chlorophorus annularis) perching on a wildflower, it was a bit busy with running but I managed to capture this long antenna beetle with my personal camera plus external macro. Bamboo borer belongs to the Cerambycidae family, genus Chlorophorus, its head, and body distinct yellow black tiger-like marking with long two black antennas.

Chlorophorus annularis, adult beetles are small, approximately 0.6 in. (15 mm) long by 0.2 in. (5 mm) wide and they have very long antennae. Pupae are similar in color to the larva, with antennae and legs held close to the body. The new adults escape through holes about 0.08-0.12 in. (2-3 mm) in diameter.
