Its That Time of the Year Again || BBQ with Old Friends
Bakra Eid happened quite some time ago, almost a month now, and as usual, it's celebrated every year. The meat from animals sacrifices is often barbecued sometimes with family, sometimes with friends and sometimes with your fellow teachers and seniors. There’s always a gathering to enjoy a barbecue.
My friends and I had been planning this bbq for quite long time almost a month, but due to various commitments and responsibilities, it kept getting canceled. Someone would be busy with work the another with exams, or someone else with family obligations.
Then suddenly, one of the most popular guys in our school group sent a message saying we should do it on the 15th and do it right away. As soon as the message came, everyone agreed. Even a few who initially couldn't make it, changed their plans and decided to come, realizing that if we kept planning, it would never happen.
Most of my school friends live in the same area since we all went to a local school, but I had moved further away. I told them to prepare a bit, and I would join them soon, and then we could start the barbecue. However, when I arrived, they hadn’t bought anything yet. We had to go buy chicken together because we only had beef, which is quite heavy. Not everyone enjoys eating beef, so having chicken was essential for variety and taste.
We bought the chicken and marinated it with some spices, and let it soak for a while so it would absorb the flavors.
Then came the tricky part of lighting the coal. It took a lot of effort to get it going. We eventually got it lit, and it took quite some time. We placed the beef on one side and the chicken on the other.
Initially, the barbecue was cooking very slowly, and everyone was getting impatient. So my best friend Sufyan and I started doing a skit, acting out a scene from a movie where two friends are parting ways and crying. It entertained everyone and passed the time.
Eventually, the coals turned red hot, and the barbecue was cooking much faster. We took out the perfectly cooked meat and started eating. It was so much fun eating together, laughing, and enjoying the food. Beef can be quite filling, so I started with chicken leg pieces, which were absolutely delicious with paratha. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. I hope you're not vegetarian, otherwise reading this might be quite unpleasant for you.
Our impromptu plan turned out to be an amazing one. We stayed at my friend's house late into the night, until around 2 AM. We had tea there and decided to stay over. It was an incredible night, reminiscing with old friends. School friends are the ones who truly stand by you without any ulterior motives, and reconnecting with them brings back all those pure, innocent memories.
