Il Tagete comune, scientificamente conosciuto come Tagetes patula, è una pianta erbacea annuale appartenente alla famiglia delle Asteraceae. Originario del Messico e dell'America centrale, il Tagete comune è molto apprezzato per i suoi fiori vivaci e per la sua capacità di repellere insetti nocivi, rendendolo una scelta popolare nei giardini e negli orti.

Il Tagete comune presenta un portamento cespuglioso e compatto, con fusti ramificati che possono raggiungere un'altezza di 20-60 cm. Le foglie sono di colore verde scuro, pennate e aromatiche, con margini dentati. Ogni foglia è composta da numerose piccole foglioline disposte lungo un asse centrale.

I fiori del Tagete comune sono la sua caratteristica più distintiva. Il Tagete comune predilige posizioni soleggiate, dove può ricevere almeno 6 ore di luce diretta al giorno. Cresce bene in terreni ben drenati e ricchi di sostanza organica, ma è abbastanza tollerante rispetto a diverse condizioni di suolo. È importante annaffiare regolarmente durante la stagione di crescita, mantenendo il terreno umido ma non inzuppato.

La semina può essere effettuata direttamente in piena terra in primavera, dopo l'ultimo rischio di gelo, oppure in semenzaio in anticipo per poi trapiantare le piantine una volta che sono abbastanza forti. I semi germinano facilmente e le piante crescono rapidamente, raggiungendo la fioritura in poche settimane.

Oltre al suo valore ornamentale, il Tagete comune è spesso utilizzato come pianta compagnia negli orti, dove può aiutare a proteggere altre piante dalle infestazioni. I fiori e le foglie possono essere utilizzati anche per preparare infusi e decotti con proprietà antisettiche e digestive.

The Common Marigold has a bushy and compact growth habit, with branched stems that can reach a height of 20-60 cm. The leaves are dark green, pinnate, and aromatic, with serrated edges. Each leaf consists of numerous small leaflets arranged along a central axis.

The flowers of the Common Marigold are its most distinctive feature. They are round in shape and composed of numerous overlapping petals that can vary in color from yellow to orange, and even red. Blooming typically occurs from late spring to autumn, providing a long period of color and beauty to the garden.

The Common Marigold prefers sunny locations where it can receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
