La Stella egiziana, conosciuta scientificamente come Pentas lanceolata, appartiene alla famiglia delle Rubiaceae. Originaria dell'Africa e della Penisola Arabica, questa pianta è apprezzata per i suoi fiori e la sua capacità di attirare farfalle e altri impollinatori, rendendola una scelta eccellente per giardini e aiuole.
La Pentas lanceolata è una pianta erbacea perenne che può raggiungere un'altezza di 30-90 cm. Le sue foglie sono lanceolate e di colore verde scuro, con una superficie leggermente ruvida. Le foglie possono avere margini leggermente seghettati e sono generalmente disposte lungo steli eretti e robusti.
I fiori della Stella egiziana sono piccoli, a forma di stella, e si riuniscono in dense infiorescenze a ombrella. I colori dei fiori variano dal rosso, rosa, bianco, al lavanda, offrendo uno spettacolo di colori vivaci durante la stagione di fioritura, che può durare dall'estate all'autunno. Questa pianta preferisce posizioni soleggiate, dove può ricevere luce solare diretta per almeno 6 ore al giorno. Tuttavia, può tollerare anche una leggera ombreggiatura. Cresce bene in terreni ben drenati, ricchi di materia organica, e richiede annaffiature regolari per mantenere il terreno uniformemente umido, ma non inzuppato. La Pentas lanceolata è abbastanza tollerante alla siccità una volta stabilita, ma le annaffiature devono essere più frequenti durante i periodi di crescita attiva e di fioritura.

Pentas lanceolata is a perennial herbaceous plant that can reach a height of 30-90 cm. Its leaves are lanceolate and dark green, with a slightly rough surface. The leaves may have slightly serrated edges and are generally arranged along upright, sturdy stems.
The flowers of the Egyptian Star are small, star-shaped, and grouped in dense umbels. The flower colors range from red, pink, white, to lavender, offering a vibrant display during the blooming season, which can last from summer to fall. The flowers are particularly attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds, thereby contributing to garden biodiversity.
This plant prefers sunny locations where it can receive direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. However, it can also tolerate slight shading. It grows well in well-drained soils, rich in organic matter, and requires regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
