La Rosa alpina, conosciuta scientificamente come Rosa pendulina, appartiene alla famiglia delle Rosaceae. Originaria delle regioni montuose dell'Europa, questa pianta è apprezzata per i suoi fiori delicati e il suo portamento elegante, rendendola una scelta ideale per giardini di montagna e aiuole rocciose.

La Rosa pendulina è un arbusto perenne che può raggiungere un'altezza di 1-2 metri. I rami sono sottili e spesso privi di spine, il che la distingue da molte altre specie di rose. Le foglie sono composte, formate da 5-7 foglioline di forma ellittica e di colore verde scuro, con margini seghettati.

I fiori della Rosa alpina sono il vero punto focale di questa pianta. Sono di dimensioni medie, con un diametro di circa 4-5 cm, e presentano una forma semplice, a cinque petali. I fiori sono di un colore rosa intenso, che contrasta magnificamente con il verde delle foglie. La fioritura avviene generalmente tra giugno e luglio, in piena estate, e può essere seguita dalla formazione di piccoli cinorrodi (frutti) di colore rosso brillante.

Questa pianta preferisce posizioni soleggiate o leggermente ombreggiate, dove può ricevere luce solare diretta per almeno 4-6 ore al giorno. Cresce bene in terreni ben drenati, fertili e leggermente acidi, ma è anche abbastanza tollerante ai suoli calcarei tipici delle regioni montane. La Rosa pendulina è una pianta molto resistente al freddo e alle condizioni climatiche avverse, il che la rende perfetta per i giardini di alta quota.

La Rosa alpina è anche conosciuta per i suoi usi medicinali. I cinorrodi sono ricchi di vitamina C e vengono utilizzati per preparare tisane e marmellate. Inoltre, la pianta ha un valore ecologico, poiché i suoi fiori attirano numerosi impollinatori, come api e farfalle.

The Alpine Rose, known scientifically as Rosa pendulina, belongs to the Rosaceae family. Native to the mountainous regions of Europe, this plant is appreciated for its delicate flowers and elegant growth habit, making it an ideal choice for mountain gardens and rockeries.

Rosa pendulina is a perennial shrub that can reach a height of 1-2 meters. The branches are slender and often thornless, distinguishing it from many other rose species. The leaves are compound, consisting of 5-7 leaflets that are elliptic in shape and dark green in color, with serrated edges.

The flowers of the Alpine Rose are the true focal point of this plant. They are medium-sized, with a diameter of about 4-5 cm, and have a simple five-petal form. The flowers are a deep pink color, which contrasts beautifully with the green foliage. Blooming generally occurs between June and July, in the height of summer, and can be followed by the formation of small, bright red hips (fruits).

This plant prefers sunny or slightly shaded locations, where it can receive at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It thrives in well-drained, fertile, and slightly acidic soils but is also quite tolerant of the calcareous soils typical of mountainous regions. Rosa pendulina is very cold-hardy and resilient to harsh climatic conditions, making it perfect for high-altitude gardens.

The Alpine Rose is also known for its medicinal uses. The hips are rich in vitamin C and are used to prepare teas and jams. Additionally, the plant has ecological value, as its flowers attract numerous pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
