Unforgettable Italy Week 22 - Piazza Spagna

Greetings Italy Community! We are already in week 22 of Unforgettable Italy, a contest brought to life by @girolamomarotta with the intention of sharing a photograph that reminds us of Italy, whether we have been there or not. On this occasion, I present to you a photograph of one of the most famous squares in Rome, Piazza Spagna, located at the end of the famous Via Condotti.

One of the things that caught my attention during this visit was the wide staircase that connects the square with the church of Trinità dei Monti and the Spanish Palace at the top of the hill. This Scalinata has 135 steps and was designed by Alessandro Specchi and Francesco de Sanctis. I noticed how tourists crowded the steps to sit and relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

However, what I liked the most was the iconic Fontana della Barcaccia, so I took the opportunity to take a picture next to it. This beautiful baroque style work was built by the sculptor Pietro Bernini with the help of his father Gian Lorenzo. It is said that the artists were inspired by a barge that came to the square swept by water during a flood caused by the rising of the Tiber River in the Christmas of 1598. The truth is that I found this fountain an incredible monument and I could not stop admiring it. My stay in this part of the Eternal City was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience that I wish to repeat in the future.
