Alpe Colle, aperta in Piemonte la libreria più alta (e sostenibile) delle Alpi / Alpe Colle, the highest (and most sustainable) bookshop in the Alps opens in Piedmont

Inaugura a 1238 metri di quota, fra i monti Morissolo e Spalavera, nella provincia del Verbano Cusio Ossola, la libreria più alta delle Alpi (e d'Europa). Un'idea di Marco Tosi, libraio di Pallanza appassionato di volumi d’epoca, trekking e fotografia che ogni domenica, da adesso fino a ottobre, accoglierà lettori curiosi ed escursionisti nel suo bookshop dedicato ai volumi vintage e fuori catalogo.

Il tutto in una baita all’Alpe Colle, l’alpeggio che dà nome al bookshop e s’incontra a 1238 metri d’altitudine lungo la storica Linea Cadorna che da Piancavallo s’inerpica verso le cime del Morissolo e del Morissolino. Con vista mozzafiato sul Lago Maggiore.

Le prime sperimentazioni della libreria, che per ora è la più alta delle Alpi italiane, in realtà risalgono al 2014, quando Marco Tosi già proponeva al Colle mostre-mercato con centinaia di libri vintage d’ogni genere.

Già allora c'era spazio per il romanzo e la saggistica d’autore, passando per la botanica, la poesia, le biografie, la storia locale e (ovviamente) l’alpinismo, spesso abbinate con musica dal vivo, talk e degustazioni di cibo a chilometro zero.

Anche l’idea di una libreria in quota, dove arrivano famiglie con bambini, comitive escursionisti di passaggio ma anche appassionati over 80, può diventare un volano culturale. Un’occasione per fare rete e avviare nuove iniziative in chiave sostenibile, oltre che un esempio resiliente per altri che abbiano voglia di proseguire lungo il sentiero.

At 1238 metres above sea level, between the Morissolo and Spalavera mountains, in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, the highest bookshop in the Alps (and in Europe) opens. An idea of Marco Tosi, a Pallanza bookseller with a passion for vintage books, trekking and photography, who every Sunday, from now until October, will welcome curious readers and hikers to his bookshop dedicated to vintage and out-of-catalogue volumes.

All this in a hut at Alpe Colle, the alpine pasture that gives its name to the bookshop and lies at an altitude of 1238 metres along the historic Cadorna Line that climbs from Piancavallo towards the peaks of Morissolo and Morissolino. With breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore.

The first experiments with the bookshop, which is the highest in the Italian Alps so far, actually date back to 2014, when Marco Tosi was already proposing exhibition-markets with hundreds of vintage books of all kinds at the Col.

Back then there was already room for novels and author's non-fiction, as well as botany, poetry, biographies, local history and (of course) mountaineering, often combined with live music, talks and zero-kilometre food tastings.

Even the idea of a bookshop at altitude, where families with children, passing hiker groups but also enthusiasts over 80 arrive, can become a cultural driving force. An opportunity to network and launch new initiatives in a sustainable way, as well as a resilient example for others who want to continue along the path.
