Well yes, I took a little break...
It lasted very little, just one day
So this will have to be a summary of two days and, I must admit, they were two good days: if we also count Friday night, three!
Let's start right from Friday night, we had some dear friends for dinner and we really had fun.
It was a quiet evening and, by the way, for me who am on a diet, it was also the "cheat" night so I was able to eat some chips and 80 grams of pasta with garlic, oil and chili pepper!
And I also allowed myself some watermelon if I have to be honest.
Of course, to be able to afford "such a" dinner I had to skip breakfast and eliminate snacks, but it was worth it!
On Saturday morning I went to Mannoli, a small mountain village near Reggio, to participate in a sports event in which the guys from Polisportiva Andromeda were involved.
A sports association for the disabled where I have been a volunteer and a technician for a lifetime... Among other things, I found out just on Saturday that this year the president wants to give me the role of coordinator so she can rest a bit (she has been in charge of the Polisportiva for 30 years now).
The event was organized by the municipality of Santo Stefano in Aspromonte in collaboration with Italica, the sports association that hosts us in the pool during the winter and that also manages the facilities in Mannoli.
We are talking about brand new facilities that were built just a couple of years ago, first of all there is a beautiful soccer field with latest generation synthetic grass, think that it is so beautiful that some professional teams have chosen the town and therefore the facilities for the pre-season retreat.
Then there is a tennis court that can also be used to play basketball, the Padel court and a 3-on-3 soccer field (the one with the small goals, incredibly cool!); of course there are very well-equipped changing rooms.
Just before the facility there is Penna the most famous "paninaro" of the area; his sandwiches with typical Calabrian products are amazing!
And just a minute after the sports facilities there is even a helicopter rescue.
Mannoli is actually a hamlet of Santo Stefano that is located 2 minutes by car from Gambarie which is also a hamlet of the first town but it is very large, there are ski facilities and a whole series of services such as restaurants and hotels.
It's been a while since I've been to that area and, I confess, that for how well kept and well organized it is, it doesn't seem like you're in the province of Reggio Calabria, Lol!
But let's not waste time chatting otherwise this post will become very long!
During the event our boys tried out various sports, more precisely basketball, padel, 3-a-side football and then they also took some penalties in the 5-a-side football goal and in the 11-a-side football goal.

The boys had a lot of fun and among other things the organizers also offered them breakfast before playing and lunch once finished and also awarded them with medals that, for the occasion, were given to our athletes by the mayor of Santo Stefano.

This is Danielino and, when we started, he was a tiny little wren; I remember his first race, 10 meters assisted in Biella, his parents thought he wouldn't even get into the water and instead he won the gold medal.
On that occasion, I followed him for the whole year and I had the honor of being in the pool as an assistant... since that day a lot of water has passed under the bridge (or rather in the pools)!
Today Danielino, who you could now also call Danielone since he is taller than me, has become one of the Special Olympics Testimonials for the year 2023, he has been called up as a reserve in the national team for the Winter World Games that will be held in Turin this year (consequently, according to the rules, at the next world event, he will be the starter), he swims like a dolphin, plays basketball, goes on the snow with snowshoes (a specialty that earned him the call up to the national team) and he is an expert singer!
He, like all the other boys from the Polisportiva, are Little Brothers to me and honestly if the satisfactions that they have given me and that they give me every day are not, I really don't know how to define the term "satisfaction".
I want Samuele to grow up in this environment too and I would like him to become a Special Olympics volunteer one day, of course if he wants to.
Regardless of what he decides to do, growing up with the Special Olympics Kids will lead him to understand what inclusion means, what commitment and perseverance mean, he will know true joy and discover a type of good that only some special people can give.
As for Sunday... it was pure relaxation and idleness with my Family!
Well, in the end I went on and on and between one thing and another this post will surely reach 2000 words; I think it's good to say goodbye and in any case we'll read each other tomorrow, right?

Ebbene si, mi sono preso una piccola pausa...
E' durata però pochissimo, solo un giorno
Questo dovrà quindi essere un riassunto di ben due giorni e, devo ammettere, che sono stati due bei giorni: se contiamo anche il venerdì sera tre!
Partiamo proprio dalla serata di Venerdì, abbiamo avuto a cena dei cari amici e ci siamo proprio divertiti.
È stata una serata tranquilla e tra l'altro, per me che sono a dieta, è stata pure la serata dello "sgarro" quindi ho potuto mangiare un po' di patatine fritte e ben 80 grammi di pasta aglio, olio e peperoncino!
E mi sono concesso anche un po' di anguria se devo essere onesto.
Certo per potermi permettere "cotanta" cena ho dovuto saltare la colazione ed eliminare gli spuntini, ne è però valsa la pena!
Sabato mattina invece sono stato a Mannoli, un paesino di montagna vicino Reggio, per partecipare a una manifestazione sportiva in cui erano coinvolti i ragazzi della Polisportiva Andromeda.
Un'associazione sportiva per disabili nella quale faccio il volontario e il tecnico da una vita... Tra l'altro ho scoperto proprio sabato che quest'anno la presidente desidera darmi il ruolo di coordinatore in modo da potersi un po' riposare (sono ormai 30 anni che si occupa della Polisportiva).
La manifestazione era organizzata dal comune di Santo Stefano in Aspromonte in collaborazione con l'Italica, l'associazione sportiva che durante l'inverno ci ospita in piscina e che gestisce anche le strutture a Mannoli.
Parliamo di strutture nuovissime che sono state realizzate giusto un paio di anni fa, in primis c'è un bellissimo campo da calcio in erba sintetica di ultima generazione pensa che è tanto bello che alcune squadre professionistiche hanno scelto il paese e quindi le strutture per il ritiro precampionato.
Ci sono poi un campo da Tennis che però si può usare anche per giocare a basket, il campo da Padel e un campo di calcio 3 contro 3 (quello con le porticine piccole, una figata pazzesca!); naturalmente ci sono degli spogliatoi attrezzatissimi.
Poco prima della struttura c'è Penna il più famoso "paninaro" della zona; i suoi panini con prodotti tipici calabresi spaccano!
E appena un minuto dopo le strutture sportive c'è addirittura un elisoccorso.
Mannoli è in realtà una frazione di Santo Stefano che si trova a 2 minuti di macchina da Gambarie che è sempre frazione del primo paese però è molto grande, ci sono degli impianti sciistici e tutta una serie di servizi come ristoranti e alberghi.
Era da un po' che non facevo un giro in quella zona e, Ti confesso, che per quanto è tenuta bene ed è ben organizzata non sembra prprio di essere in provincia di Reggio Calabria, Lol!
Non perdiamoci però in chiacchiere altrimenti questo post diventa lunghissimo!
Durante la manifestazione i nostri ragazzi hanno provato vari sport e, più precisamente, basket, padel, calcio a 3 e poi hanno anche tirato un po' di rigori nella porta di calcio a 5 e in quella di calcio a 11.
Qui puoi vederli, sopra che giocano a basket e sotto che provano il padel...
I ragazzi si sono divertiti tantissimi e tra le altre cose gli organizzatori gli hanno anche offerto la colazione prima di giocare e il pranzo una volta finito e li hanno anche premiati con delle medaglie che, per l'occasione, sono state consegante ai nostri atleti dal sindaco di Santo Stefano.

Questo è Danielino e, quando abbiamo iniziato, era uno scricciolino piccolo piccolo; ricordo la sua prima gara, 10 metri noto assistito a Biella, i suoi genitori pensavano che non sarebbe entrato nemmeno in acqua e invece vinse la medaglia d'oro.
Io, in quell'occasione, l'ho seguito per tutto l'anno e ho avuto l'onore di essere nella vasca a fare l'assistente... da quel giorno di acqua sotto i ponto (o meglio nelle piscine) ne è passata parecchia!
Oggi Danielino, che ormai potri anche chiamare Danielone visto che è più alto di me, è diventato uno dei Testimonial di Special Olympics per l'anno 2023, è stato convocato come riserva in nazionale per i Giochi Mondiali invernali che si terranno a Torino quest'anno (di conseguenza a norma di regolamento, al prossimo evento mondiale, sarà il titolare), nuota come un delfino, gioca a basket, va sulla neve con le ciaspole (specialità che gli è valsa la convocazione in nazionale) ed è un cantante provetto!
Lui come tutti gli altri ragazzi della Polisportiva sono per me dei Fratelli minori e onestamente se non sono soddisfazioni quelle che mi hanno regalato e che ogni giorno mi regalano, davvero non saprei come definire il termine "soddisfazione".
Desidero che anche Samuele cresca in questo ambiente e mi piacerebbe che un giorno anche lui diventasse un volontario di Special Olympics, naturalmente se gli andrà.
A prescindere da quello che deciderà di fare crescere insieme ai Ragazzi di Special Olympics lo porterà a capire cosa significa inclusione, cosa vuol dire impegno, perseveranza, conoscerà la vera gioia e scoprirà un tipo di bene che solo alcune persone speciali sanno dare.
Per quel che riguarda la giornata di domenica... è stato puro relax e ozio insieme alla mia Famiglia!
Bene, alla fine mi sono dilungato e tra una cosa e l'altra questo post arriverà sicuramente a 2000 parole; credo sia bene salutarci e comunque ci si legge domani, no?
