I serpenti non hanno orecchie esterne perché il loro udito si è evoluto in modo diverso per adattarsi all'ambiente e alle strategie di caccia. Invece dell'udito tradizionale, si affidano ad altri sensi come la vista, l'olfatto e la capacità di percepire le vibrazioni attraverso il corpo e il terreno per individuare le prede. Questa adattamento li aiuta a rimanere silenziosi e a localizzare efficacemente le prede senza la necessità di orecchie esterne.
