Unforgettable Italy Contest: Week 14 – Piazza Navona @maitt87

Hello friends of the Italy community! I join the 14th week of the Unforgettable Italy contest, proposed by @girolamomarotta.

A fond memory of Rome was my visit to the emblematic Piazza Navona, a space of great artistic, cultural and touristic value, which in ancient times was a stadium where sporting events and even gladiatorial fights took place.

Nowadays, it is a very pleasant walk, where I could appreciate monumental sculptures, statues and fountains, such as the Fountain of the Four Rivers, created by the architect and sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, which is accompanied by the obelisk of Domitian in the center.

There is also the Fountain of the Moor, which is the one seen in the main photograph, located on the south side of the square, where you can see a moor in a seashell, surrounded by tritons, fighting with a dolphin. Another sculpture that can be seen there is the Fountain of Neptune, located in the northern part of the square, composed of a star-shaped pool, with a statue of Neptune surrounded by four nereids, attacking sea lions.

On one side of the square is the beautiful church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. I remember that my traveling companion and I really enjoyed the shows put on by some talented street performers and musicians around the square. To tell the truth, there was a great atmosphere indeed, and I can also say that this visit was an unforgettable experience, so if you go to Rome you can't miss this stroll view around Piazza Navona.
