Unforgettable Trip #25 | Laxapana Falls | Hunting Waterfalls

How are your friends? Hope you all keep well. Unfortunately, I was not able to participate in this contest the previous week. So today I will share with you another waterfall hunting story. This time I will tell about 8th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. So let's move to the story.

Lakshapana Falls, the 8th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, is only 126 meters high. Lakshapana waterfall is created from the beautiful streams falling down Maskeliya Oya. There are two ways to reach this waterfall belonging to Nuwara Eliya district. By going on the Hatton Avissawella road and turning towards Maskeliya via Norton Bridge, Lakshapana Falls can be reached by turning from Kalugala Junction on the Hatton Avissawella road. The road through Norton Bridge is quite dangerous due to landslides and rocks, so it is advisable to use the other road during the rainy season. There is a road to reach the upper part of Lakshapana Falls. As the area with the highest annual rainfall in Sri Lanka is located in the Ambagamuwa regional secretariat division, this waterfall is fed by water for the longest time of the year.

The Old Laxapana Power Station, which produces 50 MW of electricity, and the New Laxapana Power Station, which produces 100 MW of energy, are the twin hydroelectric power plants that receive their names from the falls. According to popular mythology, this is where Buddha repaired his saffron robe while he was at Sri Pada. The terms "Laxa" (which means "hundred thousand") and "Pahana" or "Pashana" (which means rock) were combined to create the name of the Falls.
