My trip to Venice | discovering love

29 September 2020, despite the pandemic in progress we could still circulate freely and in order not to miss the opportunity and take advantage of the last days before returning to lockdown, my girlfriend and I decided to give ourselves a nice afternoon to discover Venice. I state that it was the first time in this city for both of us and therefore we did not have many ideas on what to visit, initially we limited ourselves to finding a place to have lunch and recover our strength and then go to the discovery.

The city of love

Venice is undoubtedly one of the most romantic cities in Italy, the magical atmosphere, the infinite and narrow alleys, the lights reflecting on the water, the colors, the gondolas and the historic buildings, visit this town at any time of day. it is a unique emotion, especially if there is someone special to share this experience with. Although the capital of the love story par excellence (Romeo and Juliet) is Verona, even Venice can boast of some historically romantic places such as the paths of Casanova, Piazza San Marco during sunset, the bridge of sighs or simply a nice ride in a gondola on the Grand Canal, not very historic but very romantic.

To adventure!

We did not have specific plans, so we limited ourselves to starting the adventure by letting ourselves be carried away by curiosity, after walking on the bridge of the constitution we entered the heart of the city slowly trying to get closer to the places most popular with tourists, too bad that the alleys are really beautiful but at the same time misleading, I can't tell you for sure how much time we lost just to see the alleys that most intrigued us by losing the main route, but despite this it was a lot of fun to discover small remote places to take some souvenir photos.

On the journey to Piazza San Marco we came across several very special souvenir shops, I really liked the ones that sell the famous Venice masks and among all my favorites are those inspired by the "Steampunk" style so much so that I have got one to have at home.

Continuing our journey we discovered other interesting places, such as the music museum located inside the church of San Maurizio where you can admire some of the typical instruments of the Venetian musical 700 built by the master luthiers of the various workshops famous at the time in all over Europe, or the Leonardo da Vinci museum is also very interesting, where some of his works and inventions are exhibited, unfortunately we were unable to enter the latter for reasons of time.

San Marco

Finally, about mid-afternoon, after walking for a few kilometers, we reached Piazza San Marco, seeing it for the first time was very beautiful, the square is immense and the basilica is nothing short of spectacular, I was really impressed by the majestic architecture of the buildings and especially with golden vaults.

Before entering the basilica we walked around the square a bit and saw the riva degli Schiavoni where you can take the ferry to go to the island of San Giorgio, the clock tower, the small square of the lions and the Doge's Palace, some truly fascinating structures.

After about an hour we entered the basilica of San Marco, a really curious and interesting place that everyone should visit at least once in their life. Many call it the "golden church" because of the numerous ornate mosaics that once represented the enormous wealth and power of this city as well as being a symbol of Venetian art and Christianity.

A sculpture that really struck me is that of the 4 horses of San Marco, it is said that originally these statues were placed in the hippodrome of Constantinople and were then moved to the basilica in the early 1200s, it amazed me how despite all the time past and the journey they have made are still in very good condition, a real piece of history that we can fortunately still enjoy.

In addition to the beautiful interior of the basilica, the balconies can also give you some beautiful emotions, the view of Piazza San Marco is something unique, a pity that we were unable to climb the tower to take some photos, I'm sure that from there the city in its entirety is even more beautiful.

Break Time

After having explored almost all the meanders of Piazza San Marco we had no other important destinations to go to and we therefore continued our exploration for other alleys getting lost for the umpteenth time, but thanks to some cafes we were able to continue our journey undeterred, unfortunately sunset was approaching and consequently ours left for home.

Sunset falls

Here it is, unfortunately, but also finally, the sunset. I really wanted to enjoy the enchanting lights of the sunset in Venice, even if this meant being close to the return train, the show we were able to observe was unique in its kind, the canals full of water reflected the orange light of the sun on the ancient buildings, it changed the feeling passing from a clear light, ideal for exploration, to a faint, almost relaxing, redness that warms your heart and mind, I can't find the words to describe what we have been through, but thank you Venice for giving us these emotions!

A special thanks definitely goes to my partner, without her none of this would have been really as special as it was. I really hope to be able to return one day, it would be nice to revisit it together to remind us of the past moments and to create new ones, even if both she and I prefer new places to visit rather than go back to where we have already been.

The world is a big place and it's all to be explored...

29 settembre 2020, nonostante la pandemia in atto potevamo ancora circolare in libertà e per non perdere l'occasione e sfruttare quelli che sarebbero stati gli ultimi giorni prima di tornare in lockdown, io e la mia ragazza abbiamo deciso di regalarci un bel pomeriggio alla scoperta di Venezia.
Premetto che era per entrambi la prima volta in questa città e quindi non avevamo molte idee su cosa visitare, inizialmente ci siamo limitati a trovare un posto per pranzare e recuperare le forze per poi andare all'avanscoperta.

La città dell'amore

Venezia é senza dubbio una delle città più romantiche d'Italia, l'atmosfera magica, gli infiniti e stretti vicoli, le luci che riflettono sull'acqua, i colori, le gondole e gli edifici storici, in qualsiasi ora del giorno visitare questa cittadina é un emozione unica, soprattutto se c'è qualcuno di speciale con cui condividere quest'esperienza.
Nonostante la capitale della storia d'amore per eccellenza (Romeo e Giulietta) sia Verona, anche Venezia può vantare di alcuni luoghi storicamente romantici come i sentieri di Casanova, piazza San Marco durante il tramonto, il ponte dei sospiri o più semplicemente un bel giro in gondola sul Canal Grande, poco storico ma molto romantico.

All'avventura!

Non avevamo dei piani ben precisi, così ci siamo limitati ad iniziare l'avventura lasciandoci trascinare dalla curiosità, dopo aver passeggiato sul ponte della costituzione ci siamo addentrati nel vivo della città cercando pian piano di avvicinarci ai luoghi più gettonati dai turisti, peccato che i vicoli sono davvero bellissimi ma allo stesso tempo fuorvianti, non so dirvi con certezza quanto tempo abbiamo perso solo per vedere i vicoli che più ci incuriosivano perdendo la rotta principale, ma nonostante ciò é stato molto divertente scoprire piccoli posti sperduti per scattare qualche foto ricordo.

Nel viaggio verso piazza San Marco ci siamo imbattuti in diversi negozi di souvenir molto particolari, mi sono piaciuti parecchio quelli che vendono le famose maschera di Venezia e tra tutte le mie preferite sono quelle ispirate allo stile "Steampunk" tant'è che me ne sono presa una da avere a casa.

Proseguendo il nostro percorso abbiamo scoperto altri posti interessanti, come il museo della musica che si trova all'interno della chiesa di San Maurizio dove si possono ammirare alcuni degli strumenti tipici del 700 musicale veneziano costruiti dai mastri liutai delle diverse botteghe famose all'epoca in tutta Europa, oppure molto interessante anche il museo di Leonardo da Vinci dove sono esposte alcune delle sue opere e invenzioni, purtroppo in quest'ultimo non siamo riusciti ad entrarci per questioni di tempo.

San Marco

Finalmente, circa a metà pomeriggio, dopo aver camminato per qualche chilometro, abbiamo raggiunto piazza San Marco, vederla per la prima volta é stato molto bello, la piazza é immensa e la basilica a dir poco spettacolare, sono rimasto davvero colpito dalla maestosa architettura degli edifici e soprattutto dalle volte dorate.

Prima di entrare nella basilica abbiamo girato un po' nei dintorni della piazza e abbiamo visto la riva degli Schiavoni dove si può prendere il traghetto per andare sull'isola di San Giorgio, la torre dell'orologio, la piazzetta dei leoncini e il Palazzo Ducale, delle strutture davvero affascinanti.

Dopo un' oretta circa siamo entrati nella basilica di San Marco, un luogo davvero curioso e interessante che tutti dovrebbero visitare almeno una volta nella vita.
Da molti viene chiamata la "chiesa d'oro" per via dei numerosissimi mosaici ornati che un volta rappresentavano l'enorme ricchezza e potenza di questa città oltre che essere simbolo dell'arte Veneta e della cristianità.

Una scultura che mi ha davvero colpito è quella dei 4 cavalli di San Marco, si dice che in origine queste statue erano collocate nell'ippodromo di Costantinopoli e furono poi spostate nella basilica ancora agli inizi del 1200, mi ha stupito come nonostante tutto il tempo passato e il viaggio compiuto esse siano ancora in buonissime condizioni, un vero pezzo di storia di cui fortunatamente possiamo ancora godere.

Oltre ai bellissimi interni della basilica anche le balconate possono regalare delle belle emozioni, la vista su Piazza San Marco é qualcosa di unico, peccato che non siamo riusciti a salire sulla torre per scattare qualche foto, sono sicuro che da lì la città nella sua interezza sia ancora più bella.

Break Time

Dopo aver esplorato quasi tutti i meandri di Piazza San Marco non avevamo altre mete importanti dove recarci e abbiamo quindi continuato la nostra esplorazione per altri vicoli perdendoci per l'ennesima volta, ma grazie a qualche caffè siamo riusciti a continuare imperterriti il nostro cammino, purtroppo si avvicinava il tramonto e di conseguenza la nostra ripartita verso casa.

Scende il tramonto

Eccolo, purtroppo, ma anche finalmente, il tramonto.
Volevo proprio godermi le luci incantevoli del tramonto a Venezia, anche se questo significava essere prossimi al treno di ritorno, lo spettacolo che abbiamo potuto osservare é stato unico nel suo genere, i canali colmi di acqua riflettevano sugli edifici antichi la luce arancione del sole che ne cambiava il sentimento passando da una luce chiara, ideale per l'esplorazione, ad un rossore tenue, quasi rilassante, che ti scalda il cuore e la mente, non riesco a trovare le parole per descrivere quello che abbiamo passato, ma grazie Venezia per averci regalato queste emozioni!

Un grazie speciale va sicuramente alla mia compagna, senza di lei nulla di tutto ciò sarebbe stato davvero così speciale com'è stato. Spero davvero di poterci tornare un giorno, sarebbe bello rivisitarla insieme per ricordarci dei momenti passati e per crearne di nuovi, anche se sia io che lei prediligiamo dei nuovi posti da visitare piuttosto che tornare dove siamo già stati.

Il mondo é un posto grande ed é tutto da esplorare...
