RE: DiGinnasio: What do you think of the increase in air accidents that has been taking place recently?(ENG/ITA)

in Italy6 months ago

In the U.S. alone, there's actually been a decrease in accidents. But, when comparing data from January to February of last year with today’s, while the number of accidents is slightly lower, they differ in terms of fatality - recent crashes have been far more fatal in comparison. I've read that the EU hasn't had many major air accidents in the past few years.

Boein seems to be the number one if it comes to falling apart. Interesting they are still bought.

That is true. Although Boeing has been in steady decline, as evidenced last year when the company received only four plane orders (none of which were for the 737 max, its most controversial aircraft). This could have huge implications for the U.S., given the country's lack of high-speed rail network, it would seem that they heavily rely on air travel as their primary economic driver...

Are there any data available over more years (100) or so? I wonder how it can be measured (the bigger the plane the bigger the disaster).
Were the recent crashes due to the engines or mainly "mistakes" made by pilots (dropping dead) and the tower or? That might be interesting to know as well.

If it comes to being I see plenty of these engines, the 747 is the one we remember most (don't ask why I forgot).
Isn't Boeing trying to put a bigger foot into space ship development?

I wonder if, instead of railway, smaller airplanes could take over and they also have those long distance busses. i wonder if we are still allowed to fly since that is what they wanted to forbid us during the covid years. You still dare to fly?

You know, I wouldn’t have bothered, but your questions piqued my interest, so I spent some time researching. I started by searching manually but couldn’t find any data. So, I asked DeepSeek to provide the data along with its sources. After a few clicks, I found exactly what you’re looking for! 😃

I collated the data in my excel and produced a chart. My chosen time period was from 1914 to the present (starting from WWI). Occurrences are the number of accidents; Fatalities refers to the number of deaths resulting from the crash (accidents):

Picture1.png
As we can see, during WWII, particularly in the year 1944, there were 22,461 air accidents with almost 25,000 fatalities.

So, since WWI, there were a total of 376,318 air plane crashes and 355,537 fatalities around the world. Also, we can see that over the past 10 years, there has actually been a decrease in fatalities. Hmmm...

Actually, investigating plane crashes takes a lot of time (takes almost a year they say) However, statistics show that pilot error is responsible for approximately 53% of all accidents.

When I was going over the data, I can almost easily spot Boeing aircraft on the list. There were 747, 737 max...

Oh? Was it their spacecraft that malfunctioned, stranding two astronauts in space? 😅

Based on the data, most accidents involve small planes because there are so many of them, while commercial plane incidents are less frequent. If they still did not want us to fly, what would become of the aviation industry? Buses are a good alternative, I actually like travelling on a bus (old-school style)

You still dare to fly?

I haven't tried flying though: 1) because I don't want to, and 2) I lost my passport a few years ago and haven't gotten a new one yet 😅

If you're interested to go over the data yourself, here's the link: https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/

With us not many small (sports) aeroplanes are mentioned so it sounds that everyone is doing his/her thing if it comes to data to be found interesting.
it surprises me that warplanes aren't left out here (which is with us). Thanks for the link (I will print it).

I like the fast buses too as long as I can stretch my legs ut I do fly once in a while although the waiting everywhere makes me always think: By now i could have been... by car!

Look @aneukpineung78!

I am a MOuSE, I don't fly. I explore space. 😅
