UNFORGETTABLE ITALY contest: Week 38
Ferrara and Castello Estense
A really nice town with beautiful architecture and a lively nightlife due to the university based in the town and the students living there
but during the day the rhythms were very harmonious, which makes the city a perfect place to stay and spend some nice moments
although the name refers to the well-known car manufacturer ferrari
actually has no relation to it since the well-known cars come from another Italian city name dinello, Ferrara is mostly a bike town.
The most famous monument a visitor will see when arriving to the city is the Castello Estense or Estense Castle
a moated medieval castle in the center of the town
which consists of a large block and four corner towers
This tower has a history dating back to 1385
Originally, it was a defensive and military fortification, but later it was converted into duke's residence of Este
Today it functions as a museum in which visitors can admire the interior :
the lion tower, the ducal apartments, the ancient prisons and many works of art in honour of the grand prince's majesty
photos are my property and had been taken during a past trip to north Italy
