Plagiarism On Steemit

in Italylast year
Hello fellow friends of Steemit and the Italy community. In today's blog post I'll be writing briefly on the act of plagiarism on Steemit and how to avoid plagiarism. This particular blog post is intended to teach Newcomers and old comers who have not gone through their Achievements 3 posts concerning Content Etiquette and plagiarism on Steemit.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is simply the act of taking an idea or piece of content belonging to someone and reposting or publishing it as your own. It could be a piece of text or quote, an image, a video or an idea. It is true that some authors do not intensionally mean to commit plagiarism but by failing to site the source of the text or show the name of the owner of the content, they commit plagiarism. Plagiarism acts have a way of reducing the value of the uniqueness of the Steemit community. If Steemit ends up being filled with plagiarized works, it will reduce in authenticity and value as a unique community. This is why Steemit has established a system where users can use plagiarism checking tools in communities to check for Plagiarized works and if a user continues to post plagiarized works, the user can be muted from the community.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

When it comes to images, the best option is to use images from non-copywrite image download sites like pixabay, Shutterstock, unsplash and pexels. You need to also site the source of the image. This means you need to mention the link to the site or page from which you got the image or text. If it is a quote, you can add the name of the one who made the quote and put the quote in quotation marks. An example of how to site the source of an image is the image above. I got the image from pixabay and edited it a little bit and added the link below. To know more about adding links, you can try and complete your Achievement 3 and Achievement 4 tasks in the Newcomers Community. It will really teach you on how to apply markdown which includes adding Images , Quotes and Videos.

CONCLUSION

I hope this brief blog post was helpful to everyone. Thank you all for reading. Plagiarism is not a good practice for our community and it should be avoided in order to build a better Steemit platform. Have a great day and see you in my next blog post.
