A New Wonderful Adventure [EN-IT]

I moved together with my wife and our 2 cats to Malta. In our forties we both needed new stimulation, life can offer you different opportunities and the longer you wait the more likely you are to risk running out of energy to seize them.

And that is how we find ourselves living for the medium to long term in the beautiful center of the Maltese Island. New country new customs, although to tell the truth the Island is "invaded" by foreigners, half the world has decided to live in this island for various reasons, often related to the tax environment which is quite favorable.

We just yesterday moved from the hotel apartment to a house, probably a temporary arrangement while waiting to find a place a bit more modern and less dated than the one we are currently in.

I am not showing you photos of the house also because it does not deserve it, much better are the photos taken at Floriana that I took a few days ago, which I think "speak for themselves." Getting back to the house, we were lucky, after visiting three of them through real estate agents, we went to the front desk of the hotel where we were staying to find out that in addition to short term apartments they also had long term ones.

An optimal situation as far as we are concerned, also because relying on agents has a cost, and here we have 24/7 assistance regarding housing maintenance, plus for any problems we can safely turn to them.

I have to admit that I was used to quite different prices for rents, in my parts a spacious house you pay 400/450 euros per month, while here it is practically double, of course it depends on which area you want to live in, the North and especially the South of the Island are cheaper, but also more inconvenient, for example my wife trying not to want to take the car she practically immediately found a job and from where we are today in just over half an hour she can go there in ease.

Of course there is transportation, mostly Buses, 2 euros to use them within 2 hours of buying a ticket, once you take up residence they should be free though, a lot I would say!

Then there are the Uber-style Apps, the most widely used are Bolt and eCabs, prices vary depending on the route, but sometimes they are cheaper than taking the bus, provided you have company to share the expenses.

Mi sono trasferito assieme a mia moglie e le nostre 2 gatte in quel di Malta. A quarant'anni suonati avevamo entrambe bisogno di nuovi stimoli, la vita può offrirti diverse opportunità e più aspetti maggiori probabilità hai di rischiare di non avere più energie per coglierle al volo.

Ed è così che ci ritroviamo a vivere per un medio-lungo termine nel bel centro dell'Isola Maltese. Nuovo paese nuove usanze, anche se a dir la verità l'Isola è "invasa" da stranieri, mezzo mondo ha deciso di vivere in quest'isola per diverse ragioni, spesso legate all'ambito fiscale che è parecchio favorevole.

Ci siamo giusto ieri trasferiti dall'appartamento dell'hotel ad una casa, probabilmente una sistemazione temporanea nell'attesa di trovare un posto un po' più moderno e meno datato di quello in cui siamo attualmente.

Non vi mostro le foto della casa anche perché non merita, molto meglio le foto fatte a Floriana che ho fatto qualche giorno fa, le quali penso "parlino da sole". Tornando alla casa, siamo stati fortunati, dopo averne visitate tre tramite agenti immobiliari, siamo andati alla reception dell'Hotel dove alloggiavamo per scoprire che oltre agli appartamenti a breve avevano anche quelli per il lungo termine.

Una situazione ottimale per quanto ci riguarda, anche perché affidarsi agli agenti ha un costo e qui abbiamo assistenza 24 ore al giorno 7 giorni su 7 per quanto riguarda la manutenzione dell'alloggio, in più per ogni problema possiamo tranquillamente rivolgerci a loro.

Devo ammettere che ero abituato a ben altri prezzi per gli affitti, dalle mie parti una casa spaziosa la paghi 400/450 euro al mese, mentre qui è praticamente il doppio, ovviamente dipende da in quale zona vuoi vivere, il Nord e sopratutto il Sud dell'Isola sono meno cari, ma anche più scomodi, ad esempio mia moglie cercando di non voler prendere la macchina ha praticamente subito trovato lavoro e da dove siamo oggi in poco più di mezz'ora può andarci in facilità.

Naturalmente ci sono i mezzi di trasporto, per lo più Autobus, 2 euro per usarli entro 2 ore dall'acquisto del biglietto, una volta presa la residenza dovrebbero però essere gratuiti, tanta roba direi!

Ci sono poi le Applicazioni in stile Uber, le più usate sono Bolt e eCabs, i prezzi variano a seconda della tratta, ma a volte sono più economiche del prendere il bus, sempre che si sia in compagnia per dividere le spese.
