Unforgettable Italy: Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy 🇮🇹

in Italy3 years ago (edited)

This is a black and white photo I took in Piazza Navona, Rome, Italy in 1990.

The Church in the photo, Sant'Agnese in Agone is a 17th-century Baroque church designed by Girolama Rainaldi and Francesco Borromini (1599-1667)

In front of the Church is the Obelisk and Fountain of the Four Rivers by Borromini’s rival Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680)

Between these 2 men ... Borromini and Bernini was one of the greatest Rivalries of the Italian Renaissance.

Bernini was known for many masterpieces of sculpture commissioned by Cardinal Scipionne Borghese as well as the Design of St. Peter’s Square.

There is a rumour that the sculptures of Bernin’s Fountain mockingly shield their eyes from the design of Borromini’s Church. It is quite funny to see this when you are standing in front of the Church and Fountain in Piazza Navona ...

I was there in Piazza Navona, I would have liked to know that rumour to pay more attention to the sculptures.
Roma is a dream for me.
